Integration with ArgentinaEnrique Correa, Secretary General of former Chilean President Patricio Aylwin's administration said that closer ties with Argentina were essential for the development of the Magallanes Region.

"Integration with Argentina in areas such as tourism and regional trade are decisive for a sustained development of Patagonia", underlined Mr. Correa after visiting this week Magallanes Mayor Jaime Jelincic with a delegation from the Chilean Commerce and Production Confederation.

Mr. Correa who is now a business consultant and advisor indicated that other areas of common interest with Argentina include legislation on fisheries, native forests and environment. "But tourism I believe, is where the greater thrust must be undertaken in co-ordination with Argentina", said Mr. Correa, adding that it's essential that "government investment is geared to create business opportunities for the tourist industry".

CIA plotted against Pinochet

United States Central Intelligence Agency, CIA, in May 1978 seriously considered plotting to overthrow dictator Augusto Pinochet, following the murder in Washington of former Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs Orlando Letelier then exiled in the United States.

According to 1978 CIA documents recently declassified Pinochet is considered as an "accomplice" of the most serious terrorist attack ever perpetrated in the American capital, at walking distance from the White House and Congress.

Former Minister Mr. Letelier and his American assistant Ronnie Moffit were killed in September 21st., 1976, when a time bomb exploded in their car.

US Department of Justice linked the attack directly to Chilean Intelligence agents sent by the Pinochet dictatorship to eliminate dissidents overseas. In an assessment of the incident, CIA decided that either the whole Pinochet participation was hushed or he was immediately removed for his responsibility in the double killing. < Three generals with clue commands were even mentioned as possible successors of Pinochet.

Meantime in Santiago a poll contracted by a local newspaper indicated that although a majority of Chileans feel saturated with the Pinochet case, a vast majority support the Supreme Court rul
