The arrival of Sir Rex Hunt and Major General Thompson

Saturday will see the arrival in Stanley of two distinguished visitors who played important roles in the 1982 war. Former Governor Sir Rex Hunt and his wife Lady Mavis Hunt, and Major General Julian Thompson and his wife Jane will arrive in the Falklands on board the cruise ship Saga Rose. Sir Rex and Lady Hunt will stay at Government House while in Stanley. They will be in the islands until next Wednesday the 31st of January. From the 1st to the 8th of February they will be on the West then the 9th and 10th in camp on East Falklands. Sir Rex and Lady Hunt are due to depart from the Falklands on the 14th of February. Major General Thompson, who was a brigadier during the 1982 war and commanded 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines, will also being staying at Government House along with his wife.

Serious Accident for Spanish Long-liner crew member

Yesterday, on board a Spanish long-liner the "Ibsa Quinto", a crew member was seriously injured while hauling a line. He was caught by a winch and sustained injuries to his head, chest and leg. Unfortunately, the ship was at the extreme range for the RAF sea-king helicopter, approximately 230 miles South East of Stanley. The Sea-king took off at 16.42pm and manged to re-fuel on at the royal fleet supply ship, GreyRover which was luckily in the area. The crew member was picked up at 19.02pm and returned to Stanley at 9.15 last night. KDMH reported him to be in a stable condition this morning.

Robin M Lee to be officially named

The first fishing vessel to be owned by a number of Falkland shareholders is currently trans-shipping in the Berkley Sound. The vessel, previously called Saint Dines was named the Robin M Lee on the 22nd of January. The name honours the previous chairman of Seafish company. She is owned by a combined project with 50% held by Nova Seafish Limited, a Spanish company, and 50% locally owned combining of 35% to Seafish Falklands Limited and a 15% stake held by Seaview Limited. This public company is the closest the Falkland's have to a PLC. The AGM for the company will be on Friday the 26th and they are holding a reception at 5
