An interview with Baroness Scotland

Baroness Scotland returned from the Antarctic yesterday; she visited Rothera, camped on the Glacier behind the base in -16 conditions, saw Fossil Bluff, toured the science laboratories and underwent some field training where she climbed a crevasse.

Baroness Scotland was at Stanley Museum yesterday morning to officially open the Reclus Hut. She paid tribute to the explorers, the craftsmanship of the carpenters of the Falkland Island and the skill of the museum staff who have arranged "such a fine exhibit".

FIBS spoke to Baroness Scotland about her visit to the Antarctic. At quarter past one this afternoon Baroness Scotland laid a wreath at the 1982 memorial and then visited the Falkland Islands Community School. Alex Higgins, a pupil from the school asked the Baroness this question. The Baroness stated that the relationship between the United Kingdom and the Falkland Islands is very robust, and the Falklands will stay British until the Falkland Islands chooses otherwise. She highlighted the fact that the Falklands are a lot like certain parts of Britain, and she pointed that she couldn't believe that so far from a Kent garden someone would find such good lupins!

She went on to express how she'd like to get a better understanding, share experiences and learn from the people of the Falkland Islands.
