Goodbye and Hello to CBFFI.

Sadly we say goodbye to Brigadier Geoffrey Sheldon today who has served in the Falkland Islands as CBFFI for a year. Filling his position will be 47 year old Air Commodore John Cliffe, who has come from RAF Leeming where he's been posted since 1999. He's no stranger to the islands however, having previously flown Phantom aircraft as a Squadron Leader with 23 squadron. The hand-over took place at 3.30 this afternoon where they took a tornado flight, and on landing the CBFII transfer became official.

Reception at Government House

Baroness Scotland left the island this morning. A reception in her honour was held last night at Government House; they received approximately 80 guests including Councillors, and the new CBFII, Air Commodore Cliffe.

Argentine Grenade on Wireless Ridge

A recent find of an Argentine grenade on North side of Wireless Ridge near Islet Point was destroyed by EOD today. Civilians were requested to stay 200m away from the area between 2-4pm.

Oil Committee Meeting held today

The Oil Committee meeting was held at 1.30pm today in the Department of Mineral Resources. The Chair was Councillor Halford and in attendance were The Director of Mineral Resources, Councillor Cheek, the Chief Executive and the Attorney General. They discussed the marketing events to attend, one being The American Association of Petroleum Geologists which will be held in Denver from the 3rd to the 6th of June and a deepwater conference in Houston on the 3rd to the 5th December was also thought to be a useful conference to see other off-shore areas as well as being able to visit oil companies in the area. The second item was to agree whether another Geological brochure should be written due to the success of the first brochure; Phil Stone's ?reading the rocks'. This was agreed to go ahead at an estimated cost of £4264 to print 5000 brochures.

Sir Rex and Lady Hunt programme

Sir Rex and Lady Hunt are currently in the Falkland Islands. Tomorrow they'll be flying to Port Howard, Fox Bay and Little Charters until next Wednesday when they will be returning to Stanley.
