Tax changes in the Falklands

Changes to the Falkland Islands' tax system are currently underway. The first new tax forms are coming out on Monday the fifth of February and islanders now have a new tax identification number. The TIN, as it's called, is sixteen digits, FIBS asked the man responsible, Mike Paterson why the new number was so long and for those concerned about the changes the message is this, and If you're interested in hearing a full interview with Mike Paterson on these tax changes FIBS will be broadcast again on Monday morning at 10.30.

The New Abattoir is on schedule

Brian Corner, the project manager of the new Abattoir reported today that the structural work was progressing well and although there wasn't a definite date, he said they were working according to schedule and hoped to be open in June or July. You can hear him talking about the abattoir on today's Camp Matters which follows this lunchtime's announcements.

BBC report on painkiller danger for pregnant women

It was reported by BBC news today that commonly prescribed painkillers may increase the risk of miscarriage. The researchers studied the impact on pregnancy of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen and naproxen. The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists said "It would be better if for the moment women who knew they were pregnant avoided these drugs".

Hampshire design team report on Infant/Junior School

As reported in the Winchester Independent, the £2 million project of building the Infant/Junior School has excited Radley House Partnership. The team are said to be enjoying working in such a beautiful environment, and plan to give the school a distinctive bright red roof and penguin shaped bollards at the school entrance which will hopefully appeal to the children. The building is currently encountering problems, and Councillor Sharon Halford indicated in the recent LegCo meeting that the extension is more costly than initially thought.
