Tendering for Wide Area Networking

A proposal for a Wide Area Network system for Government is still in the early stages according to the Standing Finance Committee. Government Secretary, Peter King said they are now requesting potential tendering parties as a result of a recent request for information for technical specifiactions. These were due in by the end of March. Councillor Richard Cockwell said that the next stage for the Standing Finance Committee was to receive a detailed proposal of the cost benefits for the wide area network. Councillors Norma Edwards and Bill Luxton asked for a layperson's description of the details to fully understand the advantages such a system would have for government. Principal Auditor Peter Campbell added that the system was, in his view vital but the Councillors were right in that it must be explained fully.

Education Board Ballot

Parents received today ballot papers to vote for members on the Education Board. Barry Elsby, Jennifer Hill, Philip Middleton, Jeanette Miller, Jacqui Smith and Diane Towersey have been put forward to stand for election. Each family are asked to vote for one person and return their ballot paper to the Education Office by Wednesday, the 11th April no later than 4pm. Dr David Langbridge will then recommend a person to His Excellency, the Governor for appointment on the Education Board. Faxed votes will be accepted from members in Camp.

Government Appointments

The following government appointments were published in the Gazette on 30 March. Jeremy Clarke and Robert Maddocks were both appointed as Plant Operators/Handymen with the public works department late last year. In February Neil Hewitt attained the Employment Programme co-ordinator post within the Human Resources Department and Leslie Barber became Clerk of Works with the Public Works Department. Last month Paul Brickle was appointed as Fisheries Scientist, Elspeth Coutts Learning Support Assistant with the Education Department, Ulrick Eriksen Plant Operator/Handyman with PWD and Imogen Didlick Clerk at the Secretariat. Also during March Alistair Minto was employed as a labourer with PWD, Ian France as electrician with PWD and Vladimir Sytc
