Queens Birthday Parade

Around 150 people turned out to the Queens Birthday Parade on Saturday. Warm and sunny weather prevailed throughout the ceremony and among those in attendance were the new Falkland Islands Defence Force recruits and the Royal Irish Regiment Band.

Councillor Clifton to Attend CPA Conference

Councillor Lewis Clifton will be leaving the islands tomorrow on official business. He will represent the British Islands and the Mediterranean Region at The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Executive Meeting in Barbados. CPA members will meet there from the 29th of April to the 5th of May. A member from Cyprus currently holds the seat to represent the British Islands and the Mediterranean Region, but was unable to attend due to elections. This then fell to the Falkland Islands to send a replacement, and Councillor Clifton was nominated by fellow councillors. He will travel via Chile and London on personal and council business after he leaves the islands tomorrow. At the meeting issues to be discussed will include; a theme for the annual conference; a report from Australia, the host branch, on plans for the conference and accounts and funding. Another issue to be discussed will be the appointment of the new Secretary General, which will be agreed for ratification by the General Assembly in September in Australia. This person will replace Arthur Donahoe who retires this year.

Campers Road Show

The campers Road Show is to take place between 7 and 10 May. The participants will include the Chief Executive, Director of Agriculture, General Manager of FIDC, Deputy Director of Agriculture and the Abattoir Operations Manager. The General Manager of Cable and Wireless will also take part in the road show as will the Deputy Director of Public Works and Councillor Richard Cockwell for the venues on the East. A councillor yet to be confirmed will visit the venues on the West. On Monday 7 May there will be a presentation at Hope Cottage. On Tuesday at Hill Cove, Wednesday at Fox Bay and Thursday 10 May at Goose Green. Mandy McLeod of the Department of Agriculture said this follows the popularity of the road show held last year.
