USS Nimitz in South Atlantic
One of the United States largest air carriers is sailing along the South Atlantic heading for San Diego, California after undergoing repairs in Norfolk in the east coast.
USS Nimitz with a 96,000 tons displacement, 3,500 crew members and 85 aircrafts this week spent five hours in Uruguayan waters before continuing south.The 4,5 billion US dollars and 333 meters long carrier is in a 56 days journey round the South American continent after leaving the east coast on September 25th.
Uruguayan press underlined that USS Nimitz carries more aircrafts than the whole Uruguayan Air Force and needs more manpower to operate than all the Uruguayan Navy.
