Argentina and Uruguay Ministers of Tourism Daniel Scioli and Pedro Bordaberry signed a “Memorandum of understanding” by which they commit both countries to a joint promotion of the area and its attractions “without loosing national identity”.

The first joint experience will take place next month in Miami in the coming Cruise Fair, a sector of the industry both countries are constantly working to develop.

"For both countries and Mercosur this represents a strong step forward, turning into real all the opportunities the region can offer", said Mr. Scioli adding that the current conditions anticipate "success".

The understanding besides boosting the industry's development and promoting the area internationally will propose the elimination or easing of bureaucracy and other paperwork to facilitate tourist movement in the region.

The Memorandum anticipates the joint participation in international tourist shows, exhibitions and conferences, sharing costs, stands, pavilions, but "without loosing each country's national identity".

In two years time there will be a review of the Memorandum and its achievements, and accordingly advanced or discontinued.
