Scottish Fishermen Federation new chief executive.

The Scottish Fishermen's Federation announced the appointment of Bertie Armstrong as the new Chief Executive of SFF and its wholly owned subsidiary company SFF Services Limited.

In a statement, the president of the SFF, Alex West, said: "The Federation is delighted to welcome Bertie.

Mr. Bertie international work experience, commitment to professional development, and achievements in both leadership and communication will greatly reinforce the position of the Scottish fishing industry in national and international negotiations.

The Executive Committee of the Federation and the Board of SFF Services will value his proven ability to think strategically and to focus upon delivery. Bertie will be a great asset to the Scottish fishing industry, and we are very much looking forward to him taking up post next month."

Mr Armstrong, 53, previously served as a Commander in the Royal Navy, most recently heading two departments at Clyde Naval Base on the west coast of Scotland.

He has extensive sea experience around the UK and Northern Europe, and previously held posts in the Falkland Islands and in southern Italy. He will take up post as CEO of SFF and SFFS on 25th April 2005.

Speaking of his appointment, Mr Armstrong stated: "I have a life-long enthusiasm for the Scottish fishing industry, with first hand-experience of the catching sector. I am thrilled to join the Federation and look forward to advancing the interests of our members at national and international levels".
