An exhibition book of UK media coverage of the Falklands will be on display at Standard Chartered Bank in Stanley next week.

The publicity has been generated by Keene, the public relations consultancy for the Falkland Islands Government.

Over the past twelve months, a potential audience of over 15 million people has discovered the modern Falklands through the UK media.

The exhibition illustrates the wide range of features on the Islands that have appeared in national and regional newspapers, consumer magazines and leading trade publications including The Independent, The Guardian, Aberdeen Press and Journal, Essex Magazine and The Local Government Chronicle.

A government spokesperson said, "A variety of lifestyle features have profiled people who have chosen to live and work in the Islands and the stunning photography accompanying the articles has shown the Falklands at its best.

As new generations grow up lacking awareness of the Islands, it has been increasingly important to inform younger people about the Falklands."

Animals and You featured a fun wildlife competition before Christmas; The Times - Gap Year Supplement included an article on the value of spending a gap year in the Islands; and The Chichester Observer covered the Islands' participation in the Commonwealth Youth Games.

The Falklands' close historical ties to the UK have been highlighted in features in Country Life and Museums and Heritage on the successful restoration of Cartmell Cottage.(PN)
