South Georgia received 5.427 visitors last season

The number of cruise ships and passengers visiting South Georgia last season was the highest ever, according to the

Twenty-one tour ships made a total of 49 visits, 23% more than in the previous season. Passengers totaled 5,427, a 31% increase, and came from 49 different countries, with 34% from the U.S., 21% from Great Britain and 18% from Germany.

Two of the cruise ships also visited the even more remote South Sandwich Islands. Twenty-four yachts, including two single-handers, visited the island.
