    Falklands Councillor voices human rights concerns

    As has been already reported in Penguin News, the Falkland Islands' (Malvinas) weekly newspaper, two crewmen are missing, presumed dead, after jumping into Stanley Harbour in an attempt to escape from a Taiwanese fishing boat, the Jih Da Gan. Eight companions were rescued by emergency services and have been helping local police with their enquiries.

    Crippled Japanese whaler in Antarctica again on the move

    A Japanese whaling ship which was crippled by a fire and laden with fuel begun moving away from Antarctica under its own power, confirmed on Sunday an official from Japan's Institute for Cetacean Research following on reports from the New Zealand press.

    Former Chilean president burgled in Punta del Este

    Thieves broke into the house where former Chilean president Ricardo Lagos was vacationing in the exclusive Uruguayan resort of Punta del Este approximately two weeks ago, reported Friday the Montevideo press.
