Human variant of BSE kills teenage patient in Portugal

Portuguese health authorities confirmed this week the first fatal case of Creutzfeld-Jacob disease the human variant of Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis, BSE, or better know as mad cow.

According to the electronic edition of "Publico" from Lisbon the victim is a 14 year old who lived in the north of the country in the city of Famalicao. The teen age kid died three months ago and only on Sunday where the results of the investigation done at the regional hospital of Sao Joao de Oporto released. Tests positively confirmed that the death was a serious case of Crerutzfeld-Jacob. According to online "Publico" an estimated fifty people in the last few years developed mild cases of the disease in Portugal.
