An exhibition of a selection of UK media coverage of the Falkland Islands, the 25th anniversary of the war and the success story of the Islands since then, will be on display at the Standard Chartered Bank in Stanley between November 5 and 16.

Over the past twelve months, millions of people in the UK have been given a feel for what life is like in the Falklands twenty five years on from the events of 1982. Colourful and insightful features have been placed in top print, broadcast and online media including The Independent, The Guardian, The Financial Times, Sunday Express Magazine, The Times and BBC News Online. Once again, journalists have been keen to feature the 'real life' stories of people living and working in the Islands and to share their personal insights with their readers and viewers. In total, over 170 items of positive and informed coverage about the Islands have appeared in the UK press and media over the past year providing a range of perspectives of Falklands' life and detailing the Islands' success story. Sukey Cameron, Falkland Islands Government Representative in the UK, said: "We work closely with the UK press and media in order to ensure factually correct coverage of the Falklands and to secure opportunities to showcase the Islands development since 1982. This exhibition is a sample of the huge array of coverage generated this year when the media spotlight has been on the Islands. We have encouraged journalists not just to dwell on the past but to portray today's thriving Islands which are the very reason we are so grateful for the sacrifices made on our behalf". The exhibition is a joint effort of the Falkland Islands government and Keene, the public relations consultancy for FIGO. Tony Richards, Managing Director of Keene, said: "We are extremely grateful to all those in the Falklands who have worked with us to achieve coverage of the Islands over the past twelve months. You are your own best ambassadors and without your input we would not be able to promote today's Falklands so effectively. I should also like to thank the Standard Chartered Bank for hosting this exhibition."
