British contribution to Punta Arenas in Historic Archive
As a way to preserve memories of British contribution to the development of the Magallanes Region in the extreme south of Chile, the British School in Punta Arenas inaugurated a British Historic Archive containing all the documents compiled by the Anglican Society of Punta Arenas.
UK pound and Euro reach new highs against US dollar
With a growing perception that US interests rates will be cut this week while UK interest rates will remain unchanged next week, the pound sterling hit its highest level against the US dollar in 26 years.
Ban Ki-moon confirms visit to Latinamerica and Antarctica
Continuing his efforts to spotlight the issue of climate change, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will travel to Latin America, Antarctica and Europe next week where in addition to making diplomatic contacts, he will see first-hand deforestation and other environmental problems caused by the phenomenon.
Falklands: targets for exploratory oil drilling identified
Rockhopper Exploration plc announced that initial interpretation of the 3D seismic data collected over its licences PL032 and PL033 in the Falkland Islands has revealed large fans and structural closures which could form targets for the next round of drilling. The largest fans cover approximately 40sq km and are located near to the Shell well which recovered live oil.
Falklands' fishing companies associate to 'work together'
Fifteen fishing companies on Tuesday night became members of the Falkland Islands Fishing Company Association (FIFCA) at their inaugural Annual General Meeting.
25th Anniversary Veterans Pilgrimage to Falklands
The coming week SAMA (South Atlantic Medal Association) 82 and Combat Stress 25th Anniversary Pilgrimage will be flying to the Falkland Islands with around 250 veterans and next of kin or family members of some of those lost in the 1982 South Atlantic conflict.
Fed cuts interest rate to 4.5% but admits risks to inflation
The United States Federal Reserve by a clear majority voted on Wednesday to cut US interest rates 25 basis points from 4.75% to 4.5%. The widely expected decision was taken to help revive the country's faltering housing and credit markets.

The Royal Navy's first Offshore Patrol Vessel and Falkland Islands Protection Vessel HMS Clyde will hold an Open Day at Stanley's FIPASS on Saturday 10 November 2007 between 13:00 – 16:00 hrs, announced Gilbert House.
