Full article

On the 175 year of the illegal British occupation of the Islas Malvinas the Argentine government ratified its sovereignty claims over the Malvinas, South Georgia, South Sandwich and adjoining maritime spaces.

A brief release in the Argentine Foreign Affairs Ministry internet portal states that on January 3rd, 1833 British forces occupied the Islas Malvinas dislodging by force Argentine inhabitants and authorities legitimately settled in the Islands. The act of force was immediately protested and never consented by the Argentine Republic. Today, following 175 years of that illegitimate occupation which still persists, the Argentine People and Government reassert once again the imprescriptible sovereignty rights of the Argentine Republic over the Malvinas, Georgia del Sur and Sandwich del Sur islands and adjoining maritime spaces, which are an integral part of Argentine national territory. A more political statement with more specific accusations denouncing the UK reluctance to dialogue on sovereignty and reiterated "unilateral British acts which do not contribute to bilateral cooperation and contradict the United Nations request" was expected to be released later in the day.
