Argentina's inflation controversy expands; IMF rebutted
Argentina's controversial Statistics and Census institute, Indec, further fueled dispute over the accuracy of official data when it announced that the January consumer price index, CPI, rose 0.9%, the same percentage as November and December and well below reliable private estimates of 2%.
MV Dorada prepares to leave for northern Europe
THE Fishery Patrol Vessel MV Dorada has been withdrawn from service in the Falklands and is due to leave the Islands at the middle of the month.
Vazquez launches cabinet reshuffle with October 2009 in mind
Uruguayan president Tabare Vazquez confirmed Saturday a deep reshuffle of the cabinet which in this first stage includes at least four relevant posts: Foreign Affairs, Defence, Industry and Energy; Education and Culture and Housing and Environment. The announcements are scheduled to be made public in the course of next week.
Uruguay denies military alliance with Venezuela
The Uruguayan government told Congress in Montevideo that it has no plans for a military alliance with Venezuela. The question was brought up following revelations that a delegation of Venezuelan military and scientists would be traveling in a Uruguayan navy vessel to Antarctica later this month.
Punta Arenas premium beer to the US, UK and Mexico
Chilean brewery Austral from Punta Arenas has announced it will begin exporting to the United States, Mexico and England. The company will market its premium Calafate, Yagun and Patagonia brands in select locations.
Brazil reported 13 fatal cases of yellow fever in eight weeks
Brazil has reported a total of 48 cases of the mosquito borne yellow fever, 13 of them fatal, since mid December, the World Health Organisation said this week. Three states, Goias, Brasilia and Matto Grosso do Sul concentrate the majority of cases.
