Argentine fisheries exports unchanged in 12 months

Argentine fisheries exports reached 318.372 tons and 657.5 million US dollars respectively during the first seven months of 2008 which represents a slight 6% increase in dollars over the same period a year ago, according to the latest figures released by the country's food safety office, Senasa,

Volume was actually down 2.813 tons and income up by 32.7 million US dollars. Following a poor first half, numbers begun changing as of July with shipments of 19.647 tons equivalent to 151 million US dollars, which represents an impressive 74% hike over the same month last year, according to official statistics. In the seven month period hubbsi hake leads with 77.638 tons and 193 million US dollars followed by squid, 121.460 tons and 102 million US dollars and shrimp, 19.463 tons and 148 million US dollars. Other species include hoki, 18.328 tons and 36.8 million US dollars; anchovy, 10.765 tons and 19 million tons; kinclip 4.593 tons and 18.9 million US dollars; blue whiting 3.467 tons and 13.6 million US dollars. Coastal species, croaker 10.564 tons and 9.8 million US dollars; sea trout, 4.650 tons and 9 million US dollars; flounder, 1.996 tons and 9 million US dollars; skate, 3.606 tons and 8.3 million US dollars.
