Argentina bans sale of Made in China 48 milk related products

Argentina joined a long list of Latinamerican countries which have banned the import of Chinese milk and related products such as sweets, chocolate bars, cookies, instant tea and coffee with powder milk, etc.

The decision follows an international alert after the discovery that most of China's dairy industry regularly added melamine to milk, a toxic chemical which has already caused the death of four Chinese infants and intoxicated another 50.000. Melamine among other consequences produces kidney stones in babies. The situation was admitted and reported by Chinese authorities who have jailed at least 27 dairy managers and suspended thousands of inspectors responsible for monitoring milk quality. The Argentine list of (48) banned products elaborated by the country's Food, Drugs and Medical Technology Administration (ANMAT) is based on reports from the US Food and Drug Agency; Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the Hong Kong Food and Drug Administration. ANMAT warns Argentine consumers to abstain from consuming the products listed and orders retailers to withdraw them from the shelves.
