Guatemala's Vice-President Rafael Espada commented on Monday during a press conference that they would ask Chávez to provide further information about his warning that the militaries were planning a coup, according to reports from the Spanish government news agency Efe.

Last Friday, Chávez claimed to know about intended coups in Guatemala, Salvador and Nicaragua, similar to the move last June 28th in Honduras, where President Manuel Zelaya was toppled.

"I can attest to a coup attempt in Guatemala" as well as in other Central American countries, said the Venezuelan leader.

In reply, the Guatemalan Vice-President said on Monday that they were working together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ask Chávez to "elaborate on his comment".
