Lu Hongxiang from Xin Xiang, China was recently the 2 millionth visitor at the Chilean pavilion at the Shanghai Expo that runs from May 1 to Oct 31, 2010.

As lucky number 2 million, he received a gift basket full of typical Chilean products and was treated to a special “cueca” played by the Chilean group Los Trukeros.

The Chile pavilion is 3,000 square meters and resembles an undulating crystal cup from the air. The pavilion’s theme is a City of Relations. It focuses on improving the design of future cities, thereby improving living standards.

The pavilion has been holding various themed events, such as Mining Week, Fruit Week, University Week and Wine Week. Chile will also celebrate its 200th anniversary of independence at the expo.

Chile’s participation in the Shanghai Expo is aimed at strengthening the friendship between the two countries. China and Chile are close allies and trading partners. During the expo, the countries will celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations.

In the six months that the Shanghai Expo will be open, it hopes to draw some 70 million live visitors and around 200 million online visitors. That would be the highest attendance in the history of the expo.
