Nowhere in the hemisphere has the impact of the leaked U.S. cables been greater than Argentina, a nation that according to one September 2009 cable has a ``rumor-plagued, conspiratorial society.'' Such blunt characterizations have given rise to uneasy reflection in Buenos Aires.

Marcelo Canton, an editor at Clarín, Argentina's largest newspaper, said in a video Thursday on Clarín's website that the cables offer little newsworthy but their assessments, coming from foreigners, create ``an important commotion.''

``We don't like to see ourselves in a mirror,'' Canton said, ``and in this case, it is how we are seen abroad, how a foreign diplomat talks about the Argentina situation.''

May be Canton and Clarin don’t like the mirror for me its very funny.

None cares of what US thinks about Us. You should know that if you say that have been here.

Argentina its the most anti - US country in the whole western hemisphere after the French of course and may be Germans.

So not big deal you will have to be worry about what we think about your puppets that its really scary.

Well sure you know, Bush a moron that cannot speak properly a coherent sentence in his own language.
Bill well what can we say the Whole Argentina was full of photos of him having a hot dancing in Cocodrilo. And I don’t want to mention the 92 BJ in the White House.

“Read my leaps” haha from that father that son very logic indeed.

Ronald Reagan, Ah! that was really good specially on the cowboys movies.
I just wonder why John Wayne was not his vice president. Can you imagine the laugh we have lost?

Imagine that Obama its still the most popular even though with wikileaks. Haha

Come on boy Stay in USAmex its the safe place for Americans, its the only place were you cannot point UK in a map and you don’t feel embarrassed at all.

An important lesson for anyone thinking of a career in diplomacy, if you are asked for an assessment of something then couch it in diplomatic and technical language, even if the person you're analysing is as mad as a sack of frogs, couch it in obscure medical terminology or the accepted diplomatic codes of speech.
For example: “shows commendable vigour for a man of his years” which translates as ”chases after (often numerous) women young enough to be his daughter(s)”.

The Embassy's guidance to Washington: Don't expect the Argentine government to do anything about it — least of all Fernandez and her husband, former President Nestor Kirchner, whose personal wealth soared during their years in office. Kirchner died in October. The couple had said that they made their money in real estate, and judges have declined to file charges after repeated investigations stalled in the courts.

The cable said Argentina's anti-money-laundering office had refused to respond to requests from Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg for investigative reports on allegedly suspicious transactions by the Kirchners themselves.

“Some Embassy contacts argue that the current GoA leadership, including the President, stands to lose from honest and vigorous pursuit of money laundering,” said the cable, later adding, ”It is probably unrealistic to expect that the GoA (government of Argentina) will funnel resources to prosecutors or make a concerted effort to pursue money launderers. The Kirchners and their circle simply have too much to gain themselves from continued lax enforcement.“

The cable said that ”although tax cheats and compromised politicians may still be the chief source of dirty money, continued GoA indifference to AML/CFT (anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism) could offer an attractive local staging ground to narcotraffickers and international terrorists. If the GoA does not move to close loopholes and enhance enforcement, it may soon find its financial system contaminated by drug money and terror funds.”

I guess this is why former Argentinian Politicians stay within the country when their term is over. This way they can keep buying their freedom by bribing current officials and judges.

Lets say all lovers of presidents like Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, etc.

If you really want to know what its the truth in an article of the Miami Herald read it and then think completely on the contrary of what was printed. Then burned doesn’t even worth the ink and the paper was wasted on it.

Its the press of the right win morons like fox news.

So this article its for US domestic Latino consumption to portray Obama even worst than what actually he is.

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina -- Leaders of the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking world held their annual goal-setting summit Friday amid tensions raised by the publication of U.S. diplomatic cables that in some cases plant doubts about the unity and friendship they publicly profess.

The presidents of Spain, Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua all canceled at the last minute, citing reasons unrelated to the cables. But coincidentally or not, their decisions came right after the publication of secret dispatches whose very undiplomatic language has complicated the missions of foreign ministries all over the world.
One cable sent by the U.S. Embassy in Madrid in 2008 quoted the secretary-general of the Spanish presidency, Bernardino Leon, as saying that Spanish companies were worried about the “populist tone” of Fernandez's government, political polarization and high levels of corruption in Argentina.

High levels of corruption...not CFK and her minions..can't be true... Baahhahaha

eh? I assume you mean the immigration of Chileans to the Islands. IMO it's a very good thing, the Chileans I know here are decent, hardworking, friendly people who integrate into the Falklands community just fine. They gain their Falkland Island Status just like anyone else and so are Falkland Islanders entitled to vote and to stand as candidates in government, in time I've no doubt we will have councillors who were Chilean immigrants, good thing too. As for your 'taking control' comment.....well...you seem to have a peculiar idea how democratic governments work Nico, then again you are Argentinian, given how your democratic government appears to work you must have a certain ammount of scepticism about democracy.

Anibal Fernandez (AF) to Cabinet Chief

Although he is always well-prepared, his speech and demeanor can sometimes be crass.

Additionally, he has referred to the existence of local “demand for young genitals” when explaining the challenges his Ministry faces in fighting human trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation.

...drug trafficking is a major problem in Argentina, despite evidence indicating that Colombian and Mexican drug cartels operate in Argentina, and that Argentina leads Latin America in cocaine consumption.
AF may be financially profiting from narcotrafficking. These reports state that AF's ties to narcotrafficking date back to 1994 when AF was mayor of Quilmes and allegedly directed a cocaine trafficking network.
The Embassy's DEA section has heard similar allegations from contacts at the Argentine Counternarcotics Secretariat (SEDRONAR), which has been at loggerheads with AF. SEDRONAR contacts told poloff that AF personally called off an ongoing drug investigation in Salta province near the Bolivian border when he got wind of the investigation.

Xbox, Drug use and addiction is everywhere, don't be so quick to throw the first stone. The reason it is not mentioned/controlled in Argentina is because your government is highly involved in its distribution and they are all profiting from it!

Villa Itatí is only a few minutes' drive from the more upmarket parts of Buenos Aires. Ask most people here to explain the cause of the grisly gallery in Chamorro's kitchen and the answer will be a single word: “paco”. A toxic and highly addictive mixture of raw cocaine base cut with chemicals, glue, crushed glass and rat poison, paco is the curse of Argentina's urban poor. And consumption of this bastardised, low-grade drug is eating away at the vitality and hope of the most deprived neighbourhood areas of the capital.

Essentially a chemical waste product, paco is what remains from the narco-kitchens producing cocaine bound for US and European markets. Since its appearance on the streets of Buenos Aires in the late 1990s, the drug has taken a deadly grip in slums such as Itatí. Levels of addiction rose by more than 200% in the first part of the decade and more than 400,000 doses are now being consumed daily.
