UNASUR Statement on the Flooding and Mudslides in Brazil

The Member States of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) wish to express their heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Brazil, particularly the relatives and friends of those who lost their lives, their homes and to those injured in the recent flooding and mudslides which occurred in southeastern, Brazil on January 12, 2011.

UNASUR, recognizing the increasing incidence of such disasters, which continue to cause great distress to people everywhere, wishes to join with the wider international community in support of the Government and people of Brazil as they strive to overcome the devastation caused by the recent torrential rains.

The Member States of UNASUR also wish for a speedy recovery to all those who were injured in these tragic events and for the rebuilding of lives and those communities affected.
