As for being 'bitter', ot course not. India before partition and independence was far too complicated and expensive to hold onto. It's independence was assured by WWII and, dare I say it, Lend Lease.
It's still expensive. Even now the British send large amounts of cash in development aid to support many of its population for India's supposed wealth.
And it would appear that you do not have more important things to do ........ !
