Brazil’s Minister of Defence Celso Amorim is in Buenos Aires for several scheduled meetings this week with his Argentine counterpart Arturo Puricelli and to establish closer ties in defence issues in the framework of Unasur (Union of South American nations).

This is Amorim’s first visit to Argentina as Defence minister and according to the official release from the Brazilian Ministry of Defence they will be discussing Argentina’s intention of “reconditioning Argentine missiles in Brazil” with Brazilian technology.

This is the second time both ministers will be meeting: the first was ten days ago in Sao Paulo where during a defence seminar Puricelli proposed the creation of a South American Space Agency following on the European experience and acting advantage of the Unasur working structure.

Before leaving for Buenos Aires Amorim participated next to President Dilma Rousseff in the changing flag ceremony which takes place every first Sunday of the month in the Square of the Three Branches of Government in Brasilia.

Sunday’s ceremony opened a week of official celebrations in Brazil since September 7 is Independence Day and remembers when in 1822 the country cut its dependence links from Portugal.

Former Foreign Affairs minister during the eight years of President Lula da Silva, Amorim was named last August in Defence following the stepping down of Nelson Jobim, who was extremely critical of his peers in the cabinet of President Rousseff.

Of course, if Britain decided to 'recondition' its missiles on the Falkland Islands, both Brazil and Argentin would scream about the 'militarization' of the south Atlantic.

Just as well ours are full up-to-date isn't it !

@2 - Its better than brazilian technology though isn't it, but then you wouldn't know as your country can not afford anything but remanufactured missles, whilst ours are replaced with brand new ones. And alot of our missles are our own designed and built missles.

Funny how only a few days ago they were on about a joint space agency to defend from space, now missles being remanufactured with brazilian technology. Hmm funny that, may be my posts on the article for the space agency were not far from the truth afterall.
