Argentine president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner will be addressing the United Nations General Assembly next Wednesday when she is expected to renew sovereignty claims on the Falklands/Malvinas Islands and make strong statements regarding the dispute with Iran.

According to the official agenda of the Argentine leader, this will be the fourth time Cristina Fernandez addresses the UN assembly in New York where she will be arriving with her delegation Tuesday night.

The president will be staying at the Upper West Side Manhattan Mandarin Oriental hotel, while on the three previous occasions she booked in at the Four Seasons.

According to members of the official Argentine delegation, Mrs Kirchner will again demand sovereignty negotiations with the UK regarding the disputed Falklands and other South Atlantic Islands plus criticizing the UK for unilaterally going ahead with oil exploration in Malvinas waters, ignoring UN assembly resolutions and specific support statements from Unasur, Mercosur and the Organization of American States.

The other main issue of the agenda is demanding the extradition of several high ranking Iranian officials allegedly involved in the bombing of a Jewish community institution, AMIA, in Buenos Aires, back in 1994, which left hundreds dead and severely injured.

In her speech Mrs Kirchner will appeal to the “world’s main leaders” that the eight Iranian officials indicted by the Argentine justice as intellectually guilty for the AMIA attack, to step forward and face the federal court in Buenos Aires. Interpol has issued on request from Argentina, an international arrest warrant for the eight officials, one of them currently Iran’s Defence minister.

The message to the UN general assembly referred to AMIA killings has the support from the president and vice-president of the Jewish community in Buenos Aires who trust “the Argentine government will not cease in its demand for justice to clear the circumstances surrounding the murderous attack”.

Several members from the Families and Friends of AMIA victims will be travelling with the official Argentine delegation to New York. The group has scheduled several meetings with leaders from the New York Jewish community and human rights organizations, among other activities.

The Argentine delegation also revealed that on the sidelines of the UN general assembly President Cristina Fernandez will be meeting with her Chilean peer Sebastian Piñera and an interview with US president Barack Obama has been requested.

She 'demands', every year. And on every occasion that she opens her mouth. Argentina appears to have a plan whereby they bore the hell out of every other country in the hope that pressure will be applied to the UK.

We can resist pressure. Particularly from a bore !

Get a life gal! Get used to not having the Falkland Islands :-)

The ICJ is based in the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands. If Argentina is serious about challenging the UK then this is where CFK needs to go but of course CFK already knows this.

Nothing but another photo opportunity for CFK to show the folks back home.

'Demand'? I hope she doesn't. It is not attractive for leaders of countries, wishing to be taken seriously, to act like spoilt teenagers.

One of the signs of a mature leader is to adapt to the audience. Stamping feet and making rambling impassioned speeches goes down well with the domestic audience but not so much on the world stage.
