United States Deputy Secretary of State William Burns called the Argentine authorities on Wednesday in order to provide them with details regarding the alleged Iranian plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States, Department of State Victoria Nuland confirmed.

Burns briefed allied countries and their ambassadors in Washington about US suspicions that high ranking Iranian authorities were behind this plot, a suggestion that may have international ramifications.

“Let me just say that we believe that the conspirators had other objectives, but we think that the plot has been completely dismantled,” he said during a press conference.

US authorities announced on Tuesday that two Iranian citizens had been indicted, after being accused of plotting an assassination attempt against the Saudi ambassador to the US, Adel Al-Jubeir.

The US media reported that, among the Iranians’ potential targets was the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires.

According to the ABC News network, authorities pointed out that the attacks “are tied to Iran” and included assassinating the Saudi ambassador to the US, Adel Al-Jubeir and bombing the Israeli and Saudi embassies in Washington DC.

“Bombing the Israeli and Saudi embassies in Buenos Aires was also being discussed,” sources told ABC News.

“Argentina was one of the countries that Deputy Secretary Burns called today,” Nuland said, and refused to provide the media present with any more details.

Argentina accused high ranking Iranian officials of being involved in the AMIA bombing that left 85 dead in 1994 in Buenos Aires.

Argentina’s complaint has reached the UN General Assembly.

The Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires was also attacked by terrorists in 1992. 29 people were killed and over 200 were injured after an explosion outside the building.

The announcement of the Arbabsiar case was greeted with skepticism from Iran, with Ali Akbar Javanfekr, a high-ranking adviser and spokesperson for Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, describing alleged terror plot “a fabrication.”

He said in a press conference that the US had used the bomb threat to distract the American population from “domestic issues,” and confirmed that the Iranian government is awaiting details on the case.

Fido - Dont forget who Argentina blames for the AMIA bombing and the attack on the Isreal embassy in argentina in 1992 - IRAN.

Argentina, the USA and Britain all have a common Enemy and thats IRAN and IRAN is known to sponser terrorism and supporting, Supplying and funding Iragi Insurgants, itself an act of war against the US and Britian as it was our forces that they were targetting. Iran wants to wipe Isreal of the map, so its perfectly possible that this alleged plot is true and that IRAN are behind it. But until we know the full details no one can say for sure. And believe me alot of the details will not have been disclosed for security reasons.
