    Scotland is to England as Quebec is to Canada; huge “money pits” that forever needs more money than they make and in return spend money more liberally on there residents than the poor people that pay the bills in subsidies. No wonder the English would rather jettison them and I am sure that the rest of Canada would rather be rid of Quebec if they ever had a vote.

    @eteega

    It's also like the US south, which, like Québec and Scotland, also makes secessionist noises from time to time.

    Well if the UK is going to break up, l want independence for a Yorkshire led north country. :-)
    The land of the Brigantes, it held out against Rome for 20 years.
    Of course its extended borders would be to our benefit.♥ :-)
    From the Humber, north to the Firth of Forth.
    Sorry Scotland & England!

    The UK should have been settled a thousand years ago, if it were anywhere else this would have been done,
    But as the king, probably owned everything almost, then the greedy landowners, ect ect ,
    It was united in name only,
    Thus to day you have
    One queen
    One flag
    One government
    One military
    But [ 3 ] different countries,
    That is the bit that is missing,
    I think after the referendum, in wich the scots will remain in the UK,
    [trust me they will]

    Then the government should have another referendum to see if the people would be willing [forever]
    To drop [England][Scotland][Wales][mainland only for starters]
    And become ONE COUNTRY,
    That country being great Britain,
    Nothing would change, except,
    You would be born British, rather than eng, Scot , welsh,,

    After all they do, in the rest of the uk,
    Remember Cornwall and Northumberland and parts or Yorkshire, was independent at one time,
    They are now one, and no one worries,
    Justa British thought .

    briton, l was joking. l certainly don't want to see the UK broken up.
    l would, however like to see Argentina broken up into about 6 or 7 different countries. lol

    #I believe mr Cameron said the UK is already broken.But that was in a different sense,and not along nationalist lines.Try to keep it all together,it's needs caring for or it won't be just the empire you will lose.

    I'm of Scottish ancestry but I I have always admired the English as well. But perhaps Scotland would be better off as an independent nation. The United States is in decline, partly because our borders, European based culture, and our shared language, English (the business language of the world), are being undermined by our own government. The quality of life is deteriorating, especially in many of our largest cities and citizens who earn between $30,000 and $150,000 are paying through the nose for the rich and the poor (poor by choice), not to mention the illegals who are in fact, a huge financial burden on the citizens, except for the miscreants who willingly hire them. I know the UK has a serious illegal immigrant problem as well as a growing ethnic diversity dilemna, and like the USA, particularly in its larger cities. “Small town America” is still maintaining a decent quality of life, but is being compromised by the left wing. I saw this decline coming twenty five years ago and in another twenty to twenty five years the USA will cease to be a world power because the third worlders who immigrated to this country will have mutated the USA to a nation of subcultures (which is already occuring). If Parliament is inept and negligent in keeping the British culture truly British, then Scotland should save itself and vote for independence and protect its borders and identity at all costs, even if Hadrian's Wall needs to be reconstructed!

    @16 37th VA,
    Hadrian's wall lies wholely inside English territory.
    The border between England & Scotland is some miles to the north of it.
