In the last 30 years you have gone from a dictatorship to an attempt at democracy, and it now seems falling into a family run dynasty! Sounds like something from the roman era (except you'll never become an empire as you're a bunch of cowardly, uninventive, outdated jobby jabbers :-))
Britain suffers from an underclass problem. Government benefits have been given too liberally and have turned people into moochers, (they usually are obese chain smokers, not qualified for any jobs going). Unfortunately, once you enter into this kind of system it's hard to get out, so I feel very sorry for the decent British people who are suffering because of what one of their parties (can't remember which one. labor?) turned it into a welfare state. I do trust, however, that they will be able to reverse this and get back on their feet. Argentina, I can't see the same thing happening. At least the British government doesn't just invent their numbers.

Wow excellent peace of economic analysis.
If you don’t give them some kind or benefit to survive what they are going to do? Go with a knife to steal you on the streets or to sale fresh cannabis at Brixton?
Have you ever thought that British have not incentive to work as salaries are the lowers among EU members and there is not enough economic activity to hold them?
Have you ever thought that politician in UK instead of have been giving taxpayer money to bankers to save toxic assets they could be saving business and factories to keep the economy going?
Try to work at Tesco for 6.7 pound an hour and them tell me how that feels to be poor in expensive Britain.
@6 Sorry Dany, I'm struggling to see the relevance. People work in Supermarkets, that's how things get onto shelves and into bags. How did you think they get onto shelves and into bags?

#6 - What do people do if you don't give them benefits to survive? Most will try harder to get a job and work. Come on, Danny. Look at Greece and Italy. The welfare system was a moronic model for a 'great new society' and its finally imploding in on itself. If the government gives you everything you need, why bother starting a business? Why bother getting a job? You can just sit at home all day. I'm not saying that the disabled and the very elderly should not receive benefits, but there are a HUGE amount of people both in Europe and the US who are sucking off the government's nipple for no good reason and they are bankrupting the West's economies. When the government can't throw any more money at these pockets of society, you get what happened with the London riots. They feel entitled to it, so they go out and steal it. It's not just about changing the system. It's about changing people's attitude as well.

They target stay-at-home-mum's instead of the 18 / 19 year olds who are out selling drugs. They put up the retirement age without getting the long term unemployed back to work. They give families so much in benefits that they get more money than if they got a job.
then they put up taxes Council tax bills and cut government services
You have to laugh, oh , you have to, because if you didn't, you would surely cry.
And here we are spending money on defence when the normal bloke back in England is facing it rough. Bloody disgrace!!

Mar 15th, 2012 - 05:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0the defence budget is a modest 40 billion, social protection on the other hand is a gargantuan 200 billion, not to mention the NHS at 126 billion, despite this colossal spending we still have a mediocre health service and an unemployment rate which has remained steadily hovering at 2 million despite 10 years of Nu Labour supposedly creating Jobs.......
the solution could be to migrate to warmer countries who have to learn foreign language initially.

The impression some give again the UK with the impression that Argentina is a paradise,
All countries are going through hard times at the moment, and the lucky ones with a job and a good life, should never look down on the less well off,
And thus should be grateful for small mercies, no matter what country you live in .

But you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand that in expensive Britain a person cannot live with dignity with that much. Housing is expensive, transportation, food, etc, etc.
Until now the solution for Britain was to import from cheap producer countries and finance the trade deficit by borrowing abroad. This works for some time until doesn’t anymore and tsunami debt start.
BoE is still financing the party with it famous QE in other words printing money like crazy. While waiting for a miracle to make the economy to recover. And according with experts figures UK is going to have another recession.
So can you see your situation now? Doesn’t look any good.

So be happy, while you are in recession and you have to tighten your belt Ana Botín from UK Santander branch in UK had increased her salary to £4m despite 40% fall in profits.
And do you know what? When the bank gets into trouble you will have to bailout her daddy bank with more cuts and taxpayer money.
Its is not a wonderful business? They are happy to collect, King prints as crazy and you are happy to pay while tightening your belt.
I want a business like this in Britain and you? Lol
