... according to INDEC's completely made up figures, imports soared %30, due to some extra nonsense they added to the import figures. *cough* utter bollox *cough*

How is it that whenever there is any dispute in South America that Argentina is nearly always one of the protagonists?

It's rather ironic that Mr Timmerman's first name is 'Hector' - it couldn't be more descriptive and suitable than that.

@2 unless it was ... Dr. Lecter.

What I love about this report is that Arg is just basically telling everyone in the region that they're going to be North Korea and the rest of them can just get stuffed.

Then all the Mercosur countries will agree with Argentina like the weak minded sycophants that they are.

Actually he maybe right, due to all the extra oil and gas they had to import last year. So their import statistics could well have gone up 30% on oil and gas alone lol.

Though to be honest all these import restrictions did not start until half way through 2011 and most only recently added, leading to export0s to argentina percentage drops in the first 2 months of 2012 for their neighbours. So why does Timmerman rely on 2011 data, and not on the data from the first 2 months like their nighbours have been using to point out argentinas protectionism and the impact it has had on them as a result of argentinas import restrictions.

@10 What you're talking about there is the difference between a sociopath and a psychopath. Sociopaths are typically unaware that they are incapable of doing activities that are socially acceptable, whereas psychopaths are aware and modify their behavior such that they hide their sociopathy.

This level of prevarication is clearly determined by underlying psychopathic traits.

As I have said many times TImmerman is an idiot. he couldn't' get an appointments with Prez or high level US State after they figured out how stupid he was and it didn't take long to figure out.
Few interesting facts today, predicted 2012 inflation 35%, Gdp 1.5-2% which means most likely a recession because consumer spending has stopped and everyone is shocked! Shocked I tell you!
I guess my predictions of the HUGE increase in monthly utility bills and taxes are doing what I said they would do.
Gosh I wish dumb Axel or Ogara were here to tell me it won't matter and everyone's wages will keep going up and up to compensate for the increases. I wonder if Axel is still striking to win an INCREASE to his U$55o/mo wage.

No offense to Argentina, but on this one, Argentina's definitely wrong. Spanish/Italian olive oil is cheaper in Uruguay, than Argentine olive oil costs in Argentina, and you can't even find imported olive oil in Argentina. Argentina definitely has protectionism going on, which actually hurts their economy, they need to get with globalism, before it's FAR too late. Globalism has huge downsides....but the downsides of isolating and protecting are even worse.

If the liar who is Timmidman had half a brain he would know that the imports are going to go up anyway very, very, soon and stay that way for many years.

Argentina has yet to 'fulfil' the balance of the LNG needs for this winter by importing from Qatar, even though they have significant gas fields of their own. One of their LNG suppliers is considering a bio-diesel swop for a tanker of gas (last done in 2009) but the real problem remains: NO US$ = NO gas.

We know of course that they do not have anything like the expertise needed to extract their own gas and if they started NOW with expert 'foreigners' doing the work it is 5 - 10 years before significant amounts of gas would be produced.

So the prognosis is dire for satisfying heating and commercial demand for LNG for many years to come. Couple this with dwindling Central Bank US$ due to the Mad Bitch raiding the reserves then a 'double-whammy' is only one or two years away.

@18 It's actually likely to be significantly less than that. INDEC produce figures that have been so massaged for GDP that you cannot trust them. For PPP the Argentinian government 'manages' the value of the 'basket of goods' such that they appear to be delivering social benefits when they're not.

A good example is how they 'manage' the cost of a Big Mac. It costs less than half the price of the quarter pounder, because of goverment controls, and that's why Big Macs aren't advertised or have sold out, because of the cost to McDonalds.

I had said already some weeks ago that according to a report by the i. m. f, argentina is the second country after india that most increased it's imports, what kind of excesive protectionism is that?. I dont deny that we protect our industries, all the countries do it, because they are not idiots, they know that if they dont protect their work, the powerful nations will try to put their products in our markets, and that will prejudice our industries, we all know it. Anyway some bussiness men in this country will continue doing such a big fuss when the government tries to stablish some restrictions for the imports, because they dont care in absolut about an industrial nation, they just we want a happy factory which exports agrarian products and imports industrial manufactures, but some day those people will have to understand that like them or not, we will continue increasing our industrial production, which is the most important, in fact, since a few years ago, the numbers of the industrial exports, are higher than the numbers of the agrarian products, and we must continue in that way, because we are a very unequal society yet, our social situation improved so much but there is a lot to do for our people yet.

    25. Axel, 1st those IMF numbers are based on PAST years not this year when the restrictions were implemented. Do you think you would have countries lining up to complain if there weren't problems importing?
What is your solution for... let's just pick one, cancer medication..you don't make it, can't make it, won't ever have the technology or intelligence to develop it AND the medications are currently trapped in customs. Is the patient's death caused by some big Int'l business or a CFK bureaucrat that doesn't know what the heck he is doing and in the process is DESTROYING your country.

So on a different matter, how are the negotiations going on your salary, do you think you'll get at LEAST a 35% wage increase this year to keep up with inflation or are you gonna hope for 49% so you can feel like you are richer?

@ axelarg, there's a difference between protecting one's industries, and protectionism that isolates and is devastating. The fact is, industries SHOULD be able to stand on their own, without subsidies or protections........or they're uncompetitive, incompetent, and/or lazy. Argentina, along with every other nation in the world, should welcome ALL forms of competition/imports, and then better their own industries in response, to keep up/competitive. ....If they don't, then they fall behind, left in the dust, a part of history.
I mean no disrespect by this, I wish Argentina the best, and their portion of Antarctica and their entire portion of the South Atlantic shelf should belong to them, not Britain. But as far as industries go, Argentina needs to stop trying to protect its industries and keeping its workers lazy and complacent. They need to start focusing on how they can work harder, more competitive, and improve their industries/products/prices......or they'll be left in the dust. That's the reality of the world.

YANKEE BOY. GREEK YOGHURT. CONQUEROR. MASTERSHAKEJB.

YANKEE: You are missinformed as usual, the report i reffered in my last comment, was based on the numbers of 2011. Beside, some products like the medicines dont have the same restrictions, the soposed lack of medicines and a few more products, was actualy twisted by the conservative media which is against the government, and all the anti k people like you loves to buy that mendacious information. Regarding the inflation level, i already explained why it will take many years to be solved, and i made also an ampke analysis about the causes of the inflation. Respecting my salary, we have problems with that everyyear, but we can get an agreement always, beside all the rases in everybody's salaries are higher than the inflation level. If you would think unless once, you should realise that if the government is making such a disaster with the conomy, dont you think that we should be almost in the same situation of europe?. Finally let me tell you that what you say in your comment 45, can't be more ignorant, you should leave your wishes behind when you publish your comments, because you are so rediculous most times, you have no idea about our situation, and you just buy easily the so partial or twisted information that is published in the media, just because you dont like c. f. k, but unfortunately this is evident that you have no idea about how missinformed you are.
GREEK: I explained already the true reasons of the inflation, and said too why it will take many years to be solved, but it doesn't mean that our social situation didn't improve so much, read what i typed for yankee.
CONQUEROR: If my comments are so insignificant for you, just ignore them, you are not forced to asnwer me, are you?.
MASTER: The government is eliminating some subsides for the productive sector, but it increases the credicts for the small and big enterprizes because they represent the 80 % of the jobs in the country.

From BA Herald: Herr Timidman is making himself look a complete cnut again-
”The (Argentine) government has already triggered a series of measures against oil companies conducting drillings in Malvinas Islands. In a communiqué, the Foreign Ministry revealed that on Monday both the New York Stock Exchange Executive Director, and the head of the London Stock Exchange were warned about the “illegal” activities being carried out by five oil companies.

The letters, which were signed by Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman, points out that “companies Argos Resources Limited, Borders & Southern Petroleum PLC, Desire Petroleum PLC, Falkland Oil and Gas Limited, and Rockhopper Exploration PLC, “are unlawfully conducting hydrocarbon exploration tasks on the Argentine continental platform, exposing themselves to administrative, civil and criminal suits.”

Meanwhile, the text sent to London asks the British Stock Exchange to require these companies “all information regarding such illegal activities and quantify the risks associated with them.”

You can just imagine the response this BS is going to get, besides starting the clocks running on Legal Expense Costs for the companies named directly.

    Oh JOY! I can't wait!

@34 Whooo! A miniscule amount of intelligence. Just remember that the BAT was declared in 1908. Unlike the argie attempted theft in 1942. At a time when Britain was engaged in a “global” conflict that argieland didn't dare take part in. And finished up giving “sanctuary” to the animals of the Third Reich. We haven't forgotten. You have a lot to pay for!

@49 “CONQUEROR: If my comments are so insignificant for you, just ignore them, you are not forced to asnwer me, are you?.”

That's “CONQUEROR: If my comments are so insignificant for you, just ignore them, you are not forced to asnwer me, are you, SIR?.” Right?

@55 Don't have to be an “Internet Judge”. Tell us, prick, what court are you going to take these administrative, civil and criminal suits to? We have a response. It's measured in megatons. Are you up for it?

@60 A small tip. Stop breathing in. OR stop breathing out. OR stop breathing. No-one will notice. Have you READ your comment? What makes you think a normal person would have a clue what you are talking about? How come you can't understand that it is already obvious that you are brain-dead. Please do the reasonable thing and extend the state of your brain to the rest of your slime.

    60. I do so love a good conspiracy theory! How are the flying saucers doing in Cordoba? All o/g companies are intertwined it is not news. They like ot share risk it is not a conspiracy its just good business.

BTW you don't have to be a legal scholar to know that Argentina would first have to prove they OWN the territory BEFORE the can complain about someone taking resources from them.

A little history will also tell you, it is only your territory if you can defend it.

@66 It's “I understand you're angry” not “I understand your angry” you illiterate worm. Gosh.

@65 They seem to forget this fact. The argentinians are pushing opinion as fact, and expecting the world to react to this. Fools will.

    YANKEE BOY.

Your so called info is just a joke, only you can think that this year we are going to have a 35% of inflation, last year it was betwen 23 and 25%, and our rases were higher than that, but your problem is still the missinformation, or per haps you can 't leave your wishes behind when you publish your comments here.
This year, because of the world crisis we are not going to grow 8,8% like in 2011, it's forecasted an economic expantion betwen 4,5 and 6,5%, so, the inflation will be lower than last year.

@72 unofficial reports are that argentinian inflation will be in the region of %35 this year.

INDEC probably say it's 2%, but no one believes anything the Arg government has to say.

Argentinian growth is based on INDEC figures who just smear their own cr@P on a page and then write whatever numbers it looks like.

    Get over it; I did.

    72. Maybe you have not read a newspaper in a while but the latest predictions are 35+% inflation and probably a recession. Look up the term stagflation.
Will you take Patacones when BA runs out of Pesos? I hear they already can't pay their suppliers and have to issue bonds and some of the outlying provinces are 2-3 months behind in salaries.

    @73

You can fake price indexes quite easily, you cannot fake growth. By its definition, GDP is the entire physical and financial output of a country that is REALIZED. You can't fake what doesn't exist (prices are different because it is an abstract concept).

And GDP impacts DIRECTLY on employment, consumer spending, imports, and it is impossible to fake all those numbers. And even if it were possible, had there been no growth in the last years that would have been evident in unemployment, strikes, and social tension.

Even black market output is realized eventually in the transparent market, because at some point even “black wages or spending” cash flows into some formal output.

    75. Of course you can fake growth, you can fake any number depending on who is inputting them and what they want the outcome to show. Are you seriously that naive?

    @73 “I just grew by 10% and I'm now 200cm tall.”

There you go, i just INDECed that growth figure straight out of my head.

    GREEK YOGHURT. YANKEEBOY.
GREEK: I never take into account the numbers of the indec when i reffer about the inflation indexes, i take into account the numbers of private analists. Read my comment 72 that i published for yankeeboy, where i reffered about the economic expantion of this year.
YANKEE: I know perfecty what stagflation is, that's why i say that only a few troglodyte people like you, greek yoghurt, and some very orthodox economists can think that in a year of less economic expantion like this one, we are going to have a 35% of inflation. Let me remind you that in 2009, our economy expanded just 1%, because of the world crisis, but the inflation level was 17% according to private analists.
Respecting my salary, i have no idea about what's the comparison with the dollar, actualy i dont care about it, i only know that everyyear we have rases which are higher than the inflation level, like most workers in this country. Respecting the patacones, that's another of your crazy wishes which are so far from the reality, still i didn't herad about it in absolut, i think you should change your sources of information.

No you cannot fake growth. Which is why no one even disputes it. Final output is final output, it either exists or it doesn't. And since output determines jobs, a lie there means to lie on jobs, and since jobs determine retail sales, you would have to lie there too.

So unless you are suggesting that not only the INDEC, but the entire government PLUS the labor unions, PLUS the Retail federation PLUS the industrial lobby are all in cohoots, then it is not possible.

I think you are suggesting it however, since you are paranoid.

    TOBIAS.
I'm not going to put my hands on the fire nor for the indec, nor for any private analist, i am not economist and i can't assure if the indec lies or not, i only know that there are controversies respecting it's indexes, but beyond that controversy, you can make an analysis and determine if the thories that are expressed by these people here, can be closer to reality or not. In 2009 our economy grown just 1% according to the indec, and according to private analists there was a fell of 4%, but according to their indexes of inflation, it was 17%, that index is taken by the people who publish comments here, now my question is. In a year of less economic expantion like this one, because of the world crisis, is it reliable to affirm that we are going to have a 35% of inflation?. I dont think so, may be what they are expersing are just wishes, but the reality is another thing, anyway i think i shoudn't have called them as troglodytes, it's not an insult, but that kind of comments are not necesary.
