Spain has to cut back on everything as it has run out of money.
It has even offered its only Aircraft Carrier to the Royal Navy.

@2 Because they want to coexist alongside a friendly neighbour that they can trust and as such, it will benefit both Gibraltar and Spain.

@3 It seems that Gibraltar gets on very well with Morocco. Spain? Not so much. Spain constantly creates problems at the border. Spain denies that Gibraltar has any territorial waters. Despite the fact that all then-existing territories got “territorial waters” at the same time. Spain regularly invades British Gibraltar Territorial Waters with warships and other “official” vessels. These vessels also regularly obstruct law enforcement by Gibraltar authorities. Spanish fishermen “poach” by fishing with illegal equipment up to 225 metres from the shores of Gibraltar. They have even had armed paramilitaries (Guardia Civil) running through, and firing weapons, in the streets of Gibraltar!

There is NO chance of Spain being a friendly neighbour for Gibraltar. Following the recent elections, Spain is now much like argieland. Making unacceptable and unjustified claims, using untenable interpretations of law and treaties, ignoring the wishes of the population, creating unnecessary difficulties at the borders, attempting to steal Gibraltar's resources.

Should we be surprised? Well, they both come from the same stock. They both speak the same gibberish. They are both equally untrustworthy. And despite any feelings we might have about the “expropriation” of YPF, they are both just about equally broke. I reckon that the “expropriation” of YPF might be characterised as thieves falling out over the loot!
