Brazilian beef processor JBS SA is reportedly planning to lease four slaughterhouses in Brazil, three of which may be in the cattle-rich state of Mato Grosso, according to Brazilian news outlets Wednesday citing anonymous sources.

In what could be an effort by the company to expand its footprint in Brazil's main cattle-production state of Mato Grosso, JBS will be hiring three plants there and a fourth in the northern state of Rondonia, according to Bloomberg News in Sao Paulo, citing three sources close to the deal. All four plants are reportedly leased from Guapore Carne, with a combined slaughter capacity of 3.050 head per day.

JBS currently has 62 plants in six countries with the capacity to slaughter 87.290 cattle per day.

The three Mato Grosso-based plants are reportedly located in the towns of Confresa, Juina and Colider, all in the north of the state. The Rondonia-based plant would be in São Miguel do Guaporé, reports Valor Economico newspaper on Wednesday afternoon.
