Merkel, Hillary and Rousseff the three most powerful women, says Forbes

Forbes magazine ranked German Chancellor Angela Merkel the most powerful woman in the world for the second year in a row in the annual list dominated by politicians, businesswomen and media figures. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton placed second, followed by Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, making the top three spots unchanged from last year.

The German chancellor dominates the Euro area, Hillary US policy and Dilma the sixth world economy

The list named women involved in policymaking, entertainment, technology and non-profit organizations, among other fields. They were ranked according to influence, the amount of money they control or earn, and media presence.

“These power women exert influence in very different ways and to very different ends, and all with very different impacts on the global community,” said Moira Forbes, president and publisher of ForbesWoman.

The magazine noted Merkel's resolve in preserving the European Union and her influence over the Euro zone's ongoing debt crisis.

Clinton was applauded for her handling of crises such as the release of a trove of diplomatic cables by the anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks.

Forbes cited Rousseff for her leadership of the world's sixth-largest economy and approval ratings within her country.

The average age of the 100 power brokers from 28 countries was 55. They had a combined 90 million Twitter followers, Forbes said.

Also in the top five were Melinda Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and wife of Microsoft Corp co-founder Bill Gates, and Jill Abramson, executive editor of the New York Times. US First Lady Michelle Obama, who had topped the list in 2010, was No. 7.

The list featured newcomers such as actress and performer Jennifer Lopez and billionaire philanthropist and widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs, Laurene Powell Jobs.

Republican US Representative of Minnesota and former White House hopeful MicheleBachmann  was among 21 women who fell off the list this year. Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, was No. 8. The former French cabinet minister has been on the list since it began in 2004.

“So many of these women are in policy or political roles, and their influence ... is only growing so it's not surprising that someone like Merkel or Clinton would continue to be present on the list year to year,” Forbes said.

The german and the brazilian leaders are well qualified politicians, but Hillary Clinton is not....she is seen drunk and dancing with other women which is simply unacceptable...plus the fact that Hillary Clinton permitted her husband Bill Clinton to have so many sexual affairs in the White House makes her looks very ordinary...she does not represent the real US american woman, hard working , honest, smart and good wife.

Why dancing with other women is unacceptable?
The real american, you mean the submissive woman?
The wrong in the whole history is her husband, she stood and fought.
Strong woman this one.

#6 As I said before its Dilma who stands out as good and impressive, not Hillary who stands out as bad and unimpressive - Merkel is that too, presiding over the failure of Europe through austerity. Anyway whats wrong with a bit of partying, its her policies that are wrong, not some candid photos or the fact her husband was a cheat!

The poll was for Powerful women - by definition high political office must have power. It's what you do with it that counts. Of course, your darling Christina has power - in Argentina. I think the jury is still out in that one.
Elizabeth II has very limited power but she has more than this------------- she has RESPECT.
History will remember her when the rest are footnotes.

I now await the tirade from the usual suspects.

The slowness is strong in this one.
I think you didn't get it. You are assuming that woman in the US are not like Hillary, but in my opinion she is a strong woman, not submissive at all, as she stood against everyone. Again, the wrong in this history is her husband. Whatever, your opinion or mine. She is still the most powerful woman in the government of the strongest military force of the world, so she cannot be skipped in this kind of list

You don't get it....Any person that represents a country has to show that is married to a man that will respect women.. In this case, being married to a womanizer.. Hillary knew that Bill is addict to sex....but she failed to seek help for him which resulted in several sex scandals....Bill and Hillary simply could not remember that Chelsea needed a decent life rather than to be distructed with Monica, Jennifer, Paula, etc.
Don't you think so?
