The Falkland Islands total allowable effort and catch limits for 2013 will be largely the same as in 2012 it was agreed at the Islands’ Fisheries Committee Meeting this week.

Director of Natural Resources John Barton explained the background and noted that a presentation on the 2013 Fisheries Advice paper was given to Falkland Islands Fisheries Company Association (FIFCA) members in June with the opportunity for discussion and questions.

The paper was circulated to FIFCA on July 4 with the opportunity for FIFCA members to provide any comments.

A paper presented to the committee noted that because catch limits and effort were similar to 2012: “As such most fisheries will see no or only minor adjustments in fishing time.”

It was also agreed at the meeting that access conditions for the 2013 illex fishery would be on substantially the same terms as the 2012 fishery, with a modification to the refund policy.

The 2012 fishery was reasonable with around 87.000 tons of illex caught. License uptake was good with approximately 100 jiggers involved from Korea and Taiwan.

Mr Barton said: “Whilst catches did not reach the threshold catch level which would dictate no refund, adjusting for the value of the catch ruled out any refund.” (PN).-

    Article says:

“The Falkland Islands total allowable effort and catch limits for 2013 will be largely the same as in 2012......”

    I say:
That means that the three thousand (3,000) squatters in Malvinas will, again next year, be responsible for the extraction of nearly half the migrating biomass on the South Atlantic by licensing the catches to Asian fishing fleets…..

“Graciously” leaving the other half of the catch to the forty two million (42,000,000) Argentineans………

Very “efficient” greedy, glutton, pirating Environmental Terrorism by the squatters; I must say.

The spirit of Henry VIII seems to live quite well in them Islands.....
Just remember Friar Peto’s: “Shall dogs lick thy blood…....”

Somewhat irrelevant Think. Blame your own inefficiency. Besides - if you want to start a fish war, you can hardly complain if the David turns out to be better than Goliath.

You'll be telling me that life should be fair next!

Not that there are any squatters in that region. There were, for a few months at the end on 1832, and again in 1982, but they were sent home.
