I'm guessing that the boat won't be leaving anytime soon then.............

    In other news:

Chaco province in northern Argentina surprised the local capital markets this week when it made more than $263,000 dollar-denominated bond service payments in local pesos rather than in US currency. The government of Argentina has cracked down on access to dollars this year in a bid to halt capital flight as the local currency depreciates against the dollar.

The Chaco dollar-denominated bonds were issued in 2006 and come due in 2015 and 2023. But the debt payments could not be made in the designated currency because the province could not get its hands on dollars said market sources. This act leaves the door open to the possible forced pesification of other securities denominated in foreign currency.

An ideal situation would be if it went to auction and the islanders announced they were bidding for it to become a tourist attraction. CFK would feel compelled to outbid them in a raising frenzy.

    Its Justa ship,

    Ok
A very important ship and a humiliation for CFK.
But a ship all the same,
Apparently if the Argies don’t pay, they will auction the ship to the highest bidder.

And if the Falklands people bid and buy it,
It would be the biggest humiliation since the creation of argie land.

    Go on, try it…

@11 Oh please, don't take it out on Skyteam! They have it bad enough with them ~adding~ Garuda to cover Oceania/South Pacific. But yes, it IS nationalized and if I were an International Repoman of Mystery and had no care of my already bad reputation and didn't mind being seen on the TV stranding some sad family on vacation or a dad wanting to get home to his family, it's what I would do since the planes are more fungible than a tall ship*. And indeed, DAL/KLM/AF/AeroMex could cover for AA and it would be a harsh lesson to the three alliances to chose wisely when they try to broaden coverage.

(*That said, the though the idea of it being auctioned and snagged by FI interests is brings new meaning to Schadenfreude (salty language warning).)

I'm curious as to how the argie government reckons that the detention of the vessel “violates............ .the vienna convention on diplomatic immunity” Just to start with, there is no such convention. Although there is one on diplomatic relations. I've read it. There's no provision that prohibits a government's assets being detained, or seized. It's not a diplomatic mission. It's a boat! Perhaps CFK could use some of that US$100 million sitting in Switzerland.

Good news. I hear Ghana is about to lose all trading with Mercosur + Chile, and Venezuela over this.

They have an important client in Brazil, import Argentine food, and use Venezuelan oil.

If they don't release the ship, they will eventually be starved, and in the dark.

You'll see swift resolution on this now.

Off topic but about sureties, the people posting bail for Assange have lost their appeal and have to pay their money by early November, though it was reduced to 2/3 rds as the judge recognised they acted honourably (hinting that Assange had not). Also, the Ecuadorians have requested that Assange be allowed safe passage to Ecuador but the UK government stated that they have an absolute legal obligation to send him to Sweden as the extradition process and all appeals had been completed.

@19, well if we only knew the creditors as from the neck down wearing yellow neru jacket petting a persian cat maybe taking the planes as small compensation for the debt as they land would be a profitable option. But we've seen their faces and the negative publicity of them showing a small child crying that daddy is stuck in Miami (or their other FLA destination, Orlando!) and all she doesn't even have a lousy t-shirt would make such a venture prohibitive. ;-)

@18 Presumably like the Falkland Islands are starved and in the dark - not?
@23 You don't get the picture, do you? To get your boat back you need to put up a bond for in excess of US$10 million. No problem with that, is there? CFK has ten times that in Switzerland. Then the boat can flee back across the South Atlantic and the case can go ahead. No doubt British and American lawyers will fly out to enforce the judgements already given in UK and US courts. The Ghanaian judicial system is largely based on British common law. Let's watch CFK try to wriggle her way out of this one. Incidentally, there may be a British warship close enough to assist the Ghanaian court and intercept anything trying to flee.

    @29 - AG

Obviously Ghana believes in due process.

I believe that you are Tobias. Now let's assume that you are not Tobias, but an African, as your handle would suggest.

Tell me. Why are you defending a South American country against a fellow African country? Even more so when you look at Argentina's history of 'whitening' the population, and the fact that they (unlike European countries, fellow South and North American countries) didn't free their African slaves, they murdered them.

I find it very hard to believe that you are African from any nation.

In fact, from the way you write, your syntax, grammar and racist views you are Tobias.

Pretending to be someone else from 'Africa' doesn't make your arguement (or lack of one) any more valid. In fact, it makes you look desperate.

Ghana is following it's law, and has impounded this vessel in accordance with their law. Argentina will have their day in court to argue their case, but whether they win or lose, their government has embarrassed their country once more on the international stage.

The longer Argentina takes in paying off their debts, the longer it will take them to turn their country around. No investors in the world will lend Argentina money because they can't be trusted to pay it back.

Argentina has the potential to be one of the richest countries in the world, but they remain poor. This is all self-inflicted by sequential corrupt governments, who spend their time in office stealing what they can, instead of investing in the future of Argentina.

One day Argentina will have to wake up and face its international obligations. One day Argentina will have to accept responsibility for the financial mess it is in, instead of blaming everyone else for their problems.

I, however, will not bet on that happening soon.

Arifu Gobakuwi is my real name, and I am not Tobias. This name has a far longer history than you imagine. However, both me and Tobias are a very minor part of a much larger puzzle, one you can't even begin to fathom.

I do agree with you that there will be a day in court. You just have no idea what that means right now, and that it may involve all of you, personally.

Idlehands may provide you a clue, but be warned: he as well is almost completely unaware of what is really going on, even though he may believe he knows what is going on.

Those who participate in the mezzanine forums may have slightly more insight given what ocurred there last week, which was a slight blow in our goals. But only a minor setback.

Go to minute 4:35 on this video, and listen to what she says. That is my message to all of you, including Idlehands, Chris, Yankeeboy, and several others “we” have been monitoring. Remember, minute 4:35. Listen well...

We are just admitting to you tid-bits of what we want you to know. It does not affect our long-term strategy in the slightest.

We have only been here about 14 months, but given the rhetoric levels here that is the equivalent of years in other websites and forums, which we have been keeping under close observation. From engineering forums, to football, to UN forums, to aviation, to skyscrapers, to women's health, to rugby, to Q&A websites... we are EVERYWHERE, 24/7. For years, building our case.

And our case is coming to a head now. Which is why after all these months we decided to reveal ourselves a little. Our gathering period has lasted years overall, and we have pretty much all we need for our purposes.

Tobias had a much more important role in other forums, as did Arifu Gowakuwi, your humble servant. Think was our liason here, Sussie obviously more towards feminine forums. We also have double agents of course, that is probably no surprise to you. I would be pulling the floor under you if I could reveal who those people are.

Our purpose is not to bring down MercoPress, just like our purpose is not to bring down the Mezzanine (right Tobers?), or Airliners.net (right Idlehands?). Once we have gathered enough evidence, we can “blow up” ourselves in whatever forum we had been covertly acting upon since the evidence has been saved in no less than three databases, pressed in print, and sent in several countries off-site to data-security vaults.

Once all that is done and the legal framing for what was gathered is complete, we can say whatever we want as long as we don't reveal the crux of our case, which I have not revealed nor Tobias, or anyone else will reveal or has revealed in the dozens of other forums we have been participationg over the lat 4 1/2 years.

It's been fun indulging you with this, but this will be my last briefing. Everything else will come out in time, just keep an eye on the legal websites. I admit this may not make major news channel's information blocks, but keep an eye for those that cover internet legal news. Not now, but around February or March 2013.

When Cristoffa Corombo, via La Reina Isabella, found North America in 1492.

And Native North & South Americans (Chinese).

“Chaco province in northern Argentina surprised the local capital markets this week when it made more than $263,000 dollar-denominated bond service payments in local pesos rather than in US currency.” ( http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/06/argentina-chaco-bonds-idUSL1E8L61FF20121006 )

It would only have cost the Chaco provincial government 425,000 almost worthless pesos to buy black market dollars, a bit more expensive, but much more intelligent.

This is a serious mistake, which will make it extremely difficult for Argentine provinces to sell dollar bonds in the future.

Its the well established textual practice of' no smoke without fire', and' if you can't take a joke you shouldn't have joined'.

@149 Ex- Conor Luden-Brown posting as Conor J= Isolde idea to win the biggest crap contest.....
Please, pay attention...I keep repeting the same comment about the UK team...they started insulting the argentine leader....my country Argentina and argentine citizens...
The Penguin News from the islands called her “bitch”
    Conqueror/Captain Poppy stated...“that woman smell”...“vagina neck” etc.etc.
The UK team went just too far....rather than to present their comments in a professionable way the UK team decided tp abuse the viewers with unacceptable words...
Conqueror/Captain Poppy caused the viewers to suffer mental cruelty with their comments on how the UK can destroy my country....
Now.... the UK Team don't like to be treated in the same way...and keeps placing the blame in SussieUS which is simple unacceptable.

I would credit you with some modicum of intelligence if you could actually distingusih the difference between Conqueror and myself. But you can't, it shows you inability to differentiate one writer's syntax from another.

@155 You stupid old slag. I challenge you to post a link where I have referred to that cow you call a “leader” in other than complimentary terms. I have certainly never said ...“that woman smell” or “vagina neck”. Although I may have mentioned that she's a fat, lying bitch. If your country is argieland, why don't you live there? “Viewers”? I think you'll find that they are “readers” and, on one side of the discussion - not yours, educated and intelligent. I reject the assertion of mental cruelty. It cannot be cruel to describe how a belligerent, diseased, genocidal, larcenous, mendacious, necrophiliac, putrid, pusillanimous, queer, retarded, xenophobic entity can be put out of misery. It is merely necessary and essential. Return to your roots, O sussed one. Down deep within the slime pits where other nameless things slither and gnaw at each other's vitals (Latam) and far from the light and warmth of humans.
I also reject any assertion that Captain Poppy and I are one and the same. He is far too kindly. Just look at his recent assertion that “You are as adorable as syphllis topped with chlamydia.” It would go too far in giving readers the impression that you might be human. You are an argie and therefore, by definition, not human. Just low, rabid, scummy pondlife. Remember, “adorable”, that you have the blood of millions of innocent Amerindians on your hands and, more importantly to me, the blood of 255 British servicemen and 3 Falkland Islanders. That debt remains to be paid. I will celebrate for every second that you are made to pay, and pay, and pay, and pay!

“While most of their attempts to grab Argentine assets have failed in court, Elliott and other distressed debt investors have recorded some victories. Having bought the debt originally for pennies on the dollar, their strategy is to pursue aggressive means to recover a greater amount”

So they're not distressed debtors, they're opportunistic sharks! Good rundown of the various attacks they've launched on Nestor and Cristina's Argentina over the last decade though, no wonder TTT feels his country is persecuted. Shame on the government of Ghana, the first independent African country and land of the leader voted the greatest African by the African people themselves, Kwame Nkrumah, for going along with these gangsters, hope they change track fast

“Nestor and Cristina's Argentina”. Maybe I have missed something here, this sounds like a personal fiefdom and not the democratic Argentina that all the Argie supporters say they belong to.

As a self proclaimed “socialist” do you believe in the independence of the judiciary from the state ?
From the little I have read about this case, the judge has only upheld the law.
Do you think that the President of Ghana should direct the judge to go against the law. Is this not the first step to a dictatorship ?

The place for Argentina to contest this case is in open court.

#171 I just mean the attacks on Argentina during Nestor and Cristina's terms, obviously. But to answer your other question, I think a good President in Ghana would find some legal way to go up against this hedge fund thief, especially after what he's done in Congo

BK do you mean a way to bypass international law? And more importantly the law of their own land? Why, because assface does it? And you've spoke of bypassing the law in threads in the past.
And like the USA and UK, the judiciary is separated from the executive and legislative branch for good reasons.

Why should the President of Ghana get involved in a dispute that has nothing to do with his country ? It would look like political interference instigated by “whitey”
The writ has been served under Ghana's system of law.
For the President to interfere with this is the first step to dictatorship and these usually end up in a bloody, civil war.
    Argentina has several choices.
Continue to contest the seizure by judicial means in the courts of Ghana.
Pay the money and free the ship or
    Abandon it to the authorities.
It is obvious that some persons in Argentina made a cock-up but prolonging the case makes it worse.

“No pride to insult a lady in my situation. You don't know how we grow up in Chubut.”

You make your own choices, in Chabut or USA (not really living there)

    Your words:
“ My parents sent me to USA. Here I have to work real hard turning lots of tricks, lots of man...sometimes 15 a day”

Retire your “Sussie” persona and stop talking filth, and you won't hear anymore insults. Otherwise, you have to expect people to strike back at you.

“He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword”.

Don't La Campora tire of you, as well??
