The Global Editors Network (GEN) called on the world’s media to focus attention on a press freedom crisis in Argentina where independent journalism is facing a major threat on 7 December 2012, the day announced by the government for the break-up of the Clarin Group, the country’s main independent media organization. I think this might backfire spectacularly on CFKC. When you talk to ordinary people in Argentina they talk about their free society and lack of rules with great pride. Taking away freedom of speech will not sit well with the majority. If you silence sections of the media that is exactly what you are doing.

“The attack on Clarin is symbolic of the political pressure which media are facing throughout the region.”

    The whole region, surely not?

We have all been told by Guzz, Dunni-Burger and the rest how democratic the Peronistas are!

Another stake in the freedom of AG, but why should we worry, the revolt is on the way by the look of things.

CFKC would LOVE to have the power of Chavez in her country. She emulates him and monopolises the airways with her rambling monologues. But Argentines are not like Venezuelans and that will be her downfall.

Chavez started from the point of a huge section of society having nothing. No healthcare, no education and slave wages. They were easy to manipulate, much in the same way it was easy for Castro to improve the lives of Cubans. Starting from zero it is easy to improve the lives of the poor and disaffected.

Argentines are not so desperate, they have pride and a high opinion of themselves (albeit inflated). They have become poorer, not richer under CFKC and they will continue to become poorer as her unfathomable economic policies wreak havoc. They are not dissimilar to most people in that let things slide until they are personally affected - referred to as 'hapathy' - but they are feeling affected. Now they are looking up and not liking what they see. I say we should encourage them.

Don't we know the concentration of media power has a opposite affect to its freedom. Most recently it has been highlighted in the UK with News Corp.
Clarin is developing in the same direction and it is a natural thing to happen in a capitalist economy with a capitalist business. If the state doesn't take some action to ensure a diversity of reporting of information the interests of capitalist owners will be over-represented wont it? Lets play stupid and pretend a capitalist press and media will be impartial, yes.

There are huge difference between the UK and Argentinian media.

In the UK we don't have state run media groups.
In the UK we don't have blanket propaganda broadcasts by our leading political party.
In the UK all our politicians can be interviewed by the press.

It's always a good idea to break up monoplies, especially when they control almost every aspect of the media, television, radio, newspaper, and internet. After all, the public generally owns the airwaves and should determine who gets to use them. Anytime the rich can control all the information, it can't be good for society as a whole. If Goldman Sachs owns 20% of anything there has to be serious corruption going on.

The slippery slope to dictatorship for life. Following the Chavez playbook, Kretina is crippling the only people who can organise the population against her. Don't be surprised if the midnight arrests start happening, just as they did under the Junta. Bodies will start appearing in the River Plate & Argentina will know that democracy is dead, because they elected a lunatic to the Casa Rosada.

It doesn't have to be this way for Argentina. Your neighbours are doing OK. Brazil is becoming an economic powerhouse, whilst Argentina decays because the Government is full of idiots & thieves.

The Argentine population needs to wake up and tell CFK she is no longer required. If Argentina then used it's foreign currency reserves to pay the debts it owes to the United States and other countries, then I'm sure they would be able to invest in getting Argentina back on its feet. You have plenty of resources, but sadly the politicians are preventing you from using them.

If only you would set aside your claim on the Falklands, not renounce it - just set it aside, then I'm sure that the Falkland Islanders would trade with you and cooperate to help Argentina exploit the oil reserves. It was a unilateral decision on Argentina's part to end the co-operation with the Islands that started with Menem. Through that short-sighted decision, Argentina has lost out financially.

You need to remove the bitch in the Casa Rosada, before she makes all of you bankrupt and unemployed.

    30. The public is deciding who they want on the airways or maybe you don't know how capitalism works. It is very democratic. If someone doesn't buy or watch something the paper, publisher or production will go out of business.
    Get it?
I know it is a hard concept but I taught my 5y/o so you should be able to grasp the concept.
Do you think the State should choose who gets to print and show you news and entertainment? Don't you think that is a bad thing? Don't you think they will promote shows that help their positions to keep them in power? Don't you think they will squash news that is harmful to them or their positions?

It is impossible that someone who can type can be this obtuse.

I'm not sure that what China is doing is capitalism and I don't think it is really doing well.
Whatever you may call it, it has seemed to delay the next revolution but I don't think that's going to work for much longer. All of their unsold goods they have been making to keep people working instead of protesting is about done. Every single bank is insolvant but still required to make loans to cronies. So I think their system, again whatever you want to call it, is near total collapse.
Totalitarianism has the benefit of controlling the population for a pretty long time but I think it has reached the end of the rope both in China and Argentina.

@24 Look at your post...“if the state doesn't take some action to ensure diversity of reporting...” WTF? The state should have nothing to do with reporting. @20 I completely agree with you.

Though, in my experience the default setting of Argentines is to be proud of their country to the point where any criticism is hard for them to take, unless they have travelled and can view their country with more balance. By contrast the default setting of most English people is to be highly critical of their country and government, unless they have travelled and can see how bloody good they have it in comparison to developing countries.

If people want to buy Clarin newspaper they are exercising their right to do so. If you take it away you are taking away their right to choose. Argentines, in general, don't like having their rights taken from them.

China is NOT a capitalist system at all. They may be able to copy capitalist attributes, but they are not a capitalist society. The Chinese system will never “foster the entrepreneurial spirit” that makes innovations possible, because the drearily unimaginative state is the “majority owner” of the economy. China has been able to “shoehorn a crude version of a capitalist financial system into its state-controlled economy and get some good results.” (Mainly because of lack of controls (lead in toys, tainted baby milk, inferior quality, child labor, substandar working conditions and wages) But it will never be able to replicate the breakthroughs that are the hallmarks of a true free-market system. Capitalism created electricity, the light bulb, radios, television, computers, automobiles and even the Iphones.

In the US there is the post office, Amtrak, public electric utilities, military hospitals, libraries, public schools and universities, FAA, Highways, police and fire, airports, traffic control and security, medicare, social security, etc. There is no such thing as a “pure” Capitalistic system.

TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONSPONSORED BY THE PRESIDENT OF ARGENTINA CRISTINA FERNANDEZ DE KIRCHNER
LA CAMPORA - a semi military style terrorist organization that is led by Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's son - MaximoKirchner. It is named after former a known Argentine terrorist of the Peronist political party former president Héctor José Cámpora. Although it was established in 2003, it became politically influential after the death and state funeral of Néstor Kirchner. Maximo Kirchner used money that his father Nestor Kirchner left him in his will to further the organization and take part in expropiations of private property, the oil company YPF, which Argentina expropiated (stole) from the government of Spain, and Aerolineas Argentinas also expropiated (stolen) from the government of Spain.
The airline is going to be renamed “Aerocamporas Argentinas” by the end of the year. They have already begun to repaint the logo on the airplanes at a cost of $400,000 US dollars each. La Campora hopes to imitate the terrorist organization to which Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner belonged to when she was younger, called Montoneros. Montoneros was responsable for kidnappings, murders, armed robberies of business owners and members of the opposition government in Argentina during the 1970s. The group vindicates the actions of the guerilla group Montoneros, and thus was named after Héctor José Cámpora, who had favored them. However, most members are too young to know first-hand about the 1970 conflicts in Argentina, but follow their methodologies of state sponsored terrorism. They go into schools and “indoctrinate” children and make them wear La Campora t-shirts, give them reading material and force them to participate in rallies promoting their demagoguery and any decisions made by Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. The methodology of the modern group is very similar to the Montoneros, aiming to harass, destroy and silence critics of the Kirchner administration and promote their allies in

TERRORIST ORGANIZATION SPONSORED BY THE PRESIDENT OF ARGENTINA CRISTINA FERNANDEZ DE KIRCHNER
VATAYON MILITANTE - The Argentine government under Cristina Fernandez de Kircher and The Argentine National penitentiary service, takes inmates out of jail without judicial permission, to attend and participate in political events of Kirchner. The prisoners are paid an “allowance” of $2700 per month for joining this political group. The creation of this Vatayon militante group which are CONVICTED AND INCARCERATED for everything from murderer to armed robbery is becoming the Kirchner government's militant force of the future. If things get rough for Cristina, these prisoners have nothing to lose for defending the Kirchner movement with violence. They also have access to guns and drugs, and prostitues all courtesy of the Kirchner government. The prisoners who are chosen attend these events, is left up to the to the head of the Argentine National Penitentiary Service, Victor Hortel who is a very close ally of Cristina's government He is a former prisoner himself and has very close ties with prison gangs, and has been known to release prisoners at night to go out to steal and even kill, in exchange for drugs, sex and money. Rewarding criminals and prisoners for political purposes, violating all sorts of rules and laws, is proof of the form of government that Argentina is living with and will only get worse in the months and years ahead, especially if Cristina moved forward with her proposal to change the Argentine constitution to allow for her re-re-election for an unlimited amount of presidential terms.

“Why are you against freedom of the press in you own country?”

That is not the case - good try at deflecting and distracting though.

    Back on topic:

TTT or “Arifu” (I'll play along, ok) - why are you and the other La Campora supporting CFK's attempts to regulate and limit the press?

Looks ominous - wouldn't that suppress dissent from the people?
Less free press = less free debate. Right?

TERRORIST ORGANIZATION SPONSORED BY THE PRESIDENT OF ARGENTINA KIRCHNER
LA CAMPORA - a semi military terrorist organization led by Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's son - MaximoKirchner. It became politically influential after the death and state funeral of Néstor Kirchner. Maximo used state public funds to further the organization and take part in expropiations of private property, the oil company YPF, which Argentina expropiated (stole) from the government of Spain, and Aerolineas Argentinas expropiated (stolen) from the government of Spain. The airline is going to be renamed “Aerocamporas Argentinas”. They have already begun to repaint the logo on the airplanes at a cost of $400,000 US dollars. La Campora hopes to imitate the terrorist organization which Cristina Kirchner belonged to when she was young, called Montoneros. Montoneros was responsable for kidnappings, murders, armed robberies of business owners and members of the opposition government in Argentina in the 1970s. They follow methodologies of state sponsored terrorism. They go into schools and “indoctrinate” children and make them wear La Campora t-shirts, reading material and force them to participate in rallies promoting their demagoguery and decisions made by Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. The methodology of the modern group is very similar to the Montoneros, aiming to harass, destroy and silence critics of the Kirchner administration and promote their allies in blogs, Facebook, by internet and to steadily encroach on key positions in the state.

“The world's media love to talk about the situation of the media freedom in Argentina, because they can't talk in freedom about the state of the media in their own countries.”

    two questions:

1-what countries are you referring to as a can't talk in freedom about the state of media....argentina? We know that freedom does not exist there.
2-why do you not anwser me the question I asked 6 times, what language do you speak as you stated you are a Ghanan? Gonja? Dangme? Akan? I am waiting.
yulena, if you knew the language better, with ways people speak in English, you would know what it means when someone says, “I don't know” the way Yankee used it. Google it.....you types are good at googling things. What happened......your masters repimand you all? You use to almost sound thoughtful.

I doubt very much Arg will get the ship back without sending a wire to the Ghana courts. Diplomatically, logically, morally Argentina is on the wrong side of this skirmish and will lose in the end.

CFK should just send the U$20MM or negotiate a smaller sum and be done with this International embarrassment. Why this horrible women likes to continue to embarrass Argentina in International settings is beyond me. 118@ The difference is that Europeans bring money to Argentina, argie-immigrants come to live as parasites in European welfare countries and to suck out money from social befits, yet they have nothing to offer us. They have no education, since argies don't terminate universities, that's why there are so many foreigners from other SA-countries. Still they don't work as gardeners and maids like in USA, since we have that stupid system. Basically i don't have anything against the social-benefits, but they should only be meant for local people. I know couple of cases how argies are living in Sweden and Norway doing nothing, just using government money. Heck, they don't even speak English nor the local language and still they were given a visa. WTF!!!

Most of the argies speaking English in this forum are living in Canada, Europe etc. and still they write this malvinas-BS, why don't they go back to their beloved Argentina if it's so great place. I want to make clear i'm not a neo-nazi etc. i have nothing against hard working, highly educated Latinos who immigrate, but i just happen to know argies don't fill that description. They are lazy and useless people.

Fuck, i want to smash a argie face right now.

    Weak, silly post Yuleno.

This is NOT like Julian Ass-ange over-staying his welcome in the Ecuadorian Embassy.
When Ghana sees that Argentina does not want to reclaim their ship by paying a relatively small bond, worth only a fraction of the vessel's value, it will be released to creditors.

Elliott will get a bargain and sell it on the open market - legally!

Argentina may not even get credit for its value against their debt.
How embarrassing for Argentinians. I feel sympathy for the average AR citizen. Even when a symbol of national pride is in jeopardy, but offered back with reasonable terms, CFK's government still has a public tantrum.
They have made this situation far worse than it could be. And more public.

Have they no dignity? Pay up the nominal amount quietly, and take your ship home.

Welcome to the forum. I imagine you've been watching for awhile.

The conclusions you have drawn were the same as me, after just a short time.

Trolls have multiple identities of course , and that may be why many sound the same with the same limited education.
Let's face it, any Argentinian that had finished University would likely be successful in their business or profession. They would be busy and not likely to need an income from trolling 16 hours a day.

La Campora is composed of dissaffected Argentinians 30-40 y/o. Likely, frustrated, under-achiever s, who are unemployed or underemployed in a poor economy. Predictably, they would be susceptible to propaganda and the lure of La Campora.

    Dany
    Think
    TTT (Arifu Go Bak Ski)
    and Sussie (Adorrible)
    And their many alternative 'personas'
are believed to be La Campora.

Note similarities in style and phrasing etc.
All read from the same script and share the same POV.
They all respond the same way, on cue.
They also ADORE CFK - she can do no wrong!

They all quote articles from WIKI, YouTube, The Guardian, to assert their political positions.
    Usual tactics are to
    -Change the subject
    - DDDD - deflect/deny/distract/distort facts in any argument
    - refer to Brit / US ' crimes' 300 years ago, or in Afghsnistan, etc.

“Prvates- Hunter” is really ALEX VARGAS, an angry Argentinian kid, living near Toronto Canada.
He is NOT La Campora. Frankly, he is too stupid and too much of a loose cannon.
PH lives with his parents safely in Cansda, yet incites mob violence in BA. He does not participate himself because he cannot return to Canada if he leaves.
He prefers petty theft and vandalism at 'home'.
He is very very angry, calling on nuking whole populations.
He is a self-proclaimed racist. He hates Canada - his parents brought him as an infant, to escape political persecution and poverty in Argentina.
Not sure why he is angry at “the white man”???

On the issue of the press I haven't seen any acknowledgement of the problems in the British press and the investigations by the gvt.Or the fact that the gvt has involvement with the conduct of the press.Nor of the fact that in the USA there are laws governing press impartiality,no matter what effect the laws have.

    Hmmmm, vaguely threatening,
    definitely mysterious.

Captain Poppy has stated many times that you and 'Sussie' think they are the same person, a Brit. A bit ironic coming from you.
BTW, I am not Isolde. :-)

Interesting too, the Falklanders are hinting at a big, positive, event coming soon.

JB seems to 'think' it is time to stop playing nice with the Trolls. You lot must have stepped up your tactics on other forums. I suppose events are moving quickly in BA now, as CFK gambles on her future. Dramatic actions are needed for dramatic times...

Sorry about your cadet boat. Truly a shame, as it is a legitimatic object of Argentinian pride. Despite the rhetoric on here, I'm sure nobody else would want the boat itself. If you were to pay the bond, I'm sure it would be better for everyone.
I regret that average Argentinians will be disheartened and embarrassed by CFK's political grandstanding on the issue.

On another note, glad the “Sussie ” identity is back on meds and subdued. It is so much quieter on here.
Please do everyone a favour though - ask that mentally-ill Alex Vargas to go rant elsewhere. That nuke stuff makes me cringe to hear it. He is really very angry, an embarrassment to your cause, I would think.

I think you are quite mistaken about the ship.

It is a masterpiece quite unworthy of the present day AG government and reminiscent of when AG could actually make something of lasting value.

It has also had a relatively recent refit.

There are a number of sail training associations around the world that would welcome this ship albeit with a real name on the hull, rather than the discredited one it presently has.

Thank you very much indeed for advising us about such wonderful and coloured demonstration of pure democracy in action.

I’m very disappointed with “La Canporra” because didn’t make such event publicly available.

Anyway I will not miss such appointment because sure I will be a lot of fun printing graffiti’s in the walls of “ClarinMiente” and “La destrucion”

Can I bring “casseroles”, “saucepan” whistles and some cool drinks?

I promise to bring with me good quality and brand new set of “casseroles”, because the “casseroles” of the last “del campo” and the “Barrio norte” demonstration were cheap and nasty stuff made of poor quality aluminium, they sure have not class at all.

If I were them I would stop billing and shut down the cable/internet system now, lay off all of the employees then move the equipment into a secure location.
No TV will get people really riled up before the Nov protest.

I went to a meeting at one of the La Campora's offices LaRioja St. #847 and they were passing around a flyer with all of the information that I put in message #146. I translated it the best I could to english. Everybody has to be really careful in the next few months. I live here and I feel things are going to get very ugly as the tension is so thick here in the streets, in the local media and the groups that support Kretina will do ANYTHING to stay in power and a hold of control of the money. They will not go out without a fight. I wish I could leave but I don't have a place to go.

    @KretinaKK

“I wish I could leave but I don't have a place to go.”

    And how is that?

You can go to US, UK, F@ckland Islands, Spain, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Chile, Peru, Colombia, etc, etc.

Don’t waste your future in Argentina and leave now, ask super rich “YankeeLadyBoy” if he cans pick up you from airport with his limousine, host you in his mansion in US and help you to find a well pay and wonderful job in his town.

But if you are looking for something more sophisticated, glamorous and with posh accent from Cockneyland you can ask “ConquerTrolo” sure he will be able to help you to find accommodation in glamorous Clapham Junction, Brixton, Oval, Vauxhall, etc.

If you need some financial support just put a donate button link in your post, sure Rich Islanders will donate like crazies to help you to escape from Argentina and go to F@cland free of crime, super rich and with mansions all over the place and with the most expensive cars you have ever seen.

BTW can we have any possibility that if you can archive you leaving dream from Argentina you can sign a legal contract saying I will not spam any forum again please?

    Thank You

As many Argentines i don't come here to socialize with perverts and homosexuals, I am much more interested to know how much money Monsanto will be fined for tax evasion in Argentina, this sad article seems to be the best news mercopress could offer, some cheerful support for yet another sponsored foreign news outlet.

PH as usual brings up the homosexual concern. Being an angry latent homosexual himself, struggling with his or her own sexuality. There would be no other reason to inject these bloggs with a sexual statement. PH, if you are in argentina, they have the highest rates of psychotherapists in the world. They can help you accept your homosexuality, or at least not be so angry about it....for free too! And, if you wish a sex change, you can change to birth as well. So do not fear and be so angry young child.

Montsanto tax evasion is way more important then this lies about the Argentine government , that's why I think most people here jumping to the occasion are British homosexuals and perverts looking for Latin warm company and if you consider the personal attacks against each other rather then discussing the news at hand the truth will surface, just say the word homo and they will rise to the occasion out of the woodwork. How much hypocrisy can mr english afford, well! You be the judge.

    my wife came to the states recently from Argentina;
its interesting to see her perspective change now that she is 'outside looking in'..
she see's all the goofiness of the kirchner govt and it's impact being reported in other publications outside of 'clarin miente' by international media.

many in RG (like my wife) believed the press in her country was just out to get the president(and likely so) but then she finds out the world opinion is based on quite solid ground - that kirchner is erratic, doesnt pay the bills, enriched herself on behalf of her people, sqaushed investigations, bought votes and is leading her country into the toilet and it's not just 'clarin miente' reporting it this time .

You are correct Troy, we don't know that. However his homosexual outbursts indicate same sex sexual abuse and his anger to the white man also suggests his long internalized anger of being indigenous SA. There are plenty of studies that suggest that children breast feed have less behavior problems and adopt to societal norms with less aggression than those bottle feed or weaned too soon.

I would say with the political climate being what it is right now, we have decided
to delay plans to go there in January - we are just not sure if we'll have trouble travelling with our
personal electronics, US Currency, or if her travel status back to the U.S. will be in question on return.
BTW: My last visit to Argentina I was stopped and detained, my bags emptied, money counted (thank god i didnt have
much) and signed a form saying i was detained, they found nothing and have a nice day (in spanish) this was in Rosario..
Was followed by their police/customs the entire time at the airport with a guard stationed within 20 feet anywhere i
decided to go (which wasnt very far considering rosario is small, but where i went, they went also..)
I know it sounds paranoid, but the old adage is 'better safe than sorry'..

@208 Captain Poppy - yes, i am an American. i was there June 2011 - last year (arrived and left at Rosario airport via peru/mexico) - this was before the recent restrictions on dollars and travel. my wife did still have to fill out a form then asking for permission and explain travel plans in addition to proof of funds...at the airport .my wife said they were just looking for drugs.. idk.. but that was my experience.

We fly into Ezieza (Pistarini) have really never had any trouble. Most of the time we're staying in Recoleta with family. I was there this February/March. Perhaps it's the smaller cities/towns where they are more suspect. I'm a strict debit/credit card user so I really do not carry cash. I get loacl pesos when I there for cabs and tips. Funny how you can pay at a restuarant with your card but they really want the tips in cash. Probably so the owners don't screw them. Ever flash the greenbacks at them? I was a Loi's once and went to tip the bell boy and said “ lo siento, Yo solo tengo dolares” man his eyes lit up like the sun. Was suppose to head there next month but have to put it off until January, but the wife is heading back.

Is that your conclusion yulena. I think something else, like being burned by the government. That tends to develop a resentment, like the one my wife has after they robbed her pension.

    @21o Captain_poppy - i would agree it's because it's a smaller community/town where there is closer scrutiny.
and yes, i have paid in cash (U.S.) but my wife suggested i not get 'flashy' with it haha.. so, i've since learned to just bring a little as you suggested in your post for tips etc.. and use pesos.

@211 Yuleno - did you have any particular point to your statement? Ordinarily i would take offense, however i find it difficult to get too angry with children, they generally grow up and learn - here's hoping that happens to you soon.

IC....another thing, I am not sure how often you are there, but when you take a cab, especially in Buenos Aires, don't close the door like it's an AMerican car. Those cabs are tin boxes and when you slam it the doors nearly tear off. The driver will damn near shoot you. ALso only take a taxi with a radio (2 way) in it. The other are have a higher likihood of being corrupt or worse.

Yes, but unfortunately I tend to dream of the fun days gone by. I'm sure you are fit and trim and you could carry an extra 700 grams of weight and look your best.

    @221 Captain Poppy

    Let's not get overexcited here!

The standard Barrett 0.50 cal round has a 661 GRAIN bullet head, which is the usual loading for 50 BMG, this is 42.83 g.

700 grams is almost ONE AND A HALF POUNDS!!!

I thought the 50 cal was big, but that would be huge!! :o)

Typo Chris. We gringos still use an old systems of weights and measure. 661 grains is more of a ball round (head use) the API's rounds tend to be closer to 600 grains. Have you ever had the opportunity to see the end result? It's quite impressive in what's removed and or penetrated.

“Popsey” - kinda folksy and nice.

Like the way kids affectionately talk to an older experienced person they admire.

Perfect for your grandson, and others...
