If the sailors die, then I expect a number of Argentines will want CFK's blood in return. I doubt that she will be able to get to the airport in time to get the last plane out.

By the way Argentina does not recognise the internation court of justice, so they should not be permitted to take this to the UN Law of the sea international tribunal - Especially when they reguarly act in breach of the laws of the sea themselves by obstructing ships rights of free passage.

The Ghanaians know several things as facts, which these two clowns appear not to know:
1. Argentina's military is only a minor threat to countries it actually shares a border with, as they have no way to move troops except by truck.
2. Ghana is a member of the African Union, and therefore can call upon its allies to help defend her, most notably South Africa and Nigeria.
3. Ghana is a member of the Commonwealth, and therefore can call upon its allies to help defend her, most notably the UK, South Africa and Nigeria.
4. Any aggressive action would see the UNSC slapping Argentina with a legally binding resolution.
5. Ghana is acting within the law.
6. Taking a case to the Interational Convention of the Sea (in essence the ICJ) takes months, if not years.
I think that the Argentine government is playing for time whilst it packs it's bags before the arrival of an angry Argentine mob, making it look like its doing something whilst at the same time not actually doing anything.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha! They are never getting it back! Don't cry for me Argentina! Just cry for yourselves!

Ghana allowed it to come on a good will visit and then detained it. Ghana's behavior is very bad and Argentina shouldn't yield to this sort of blackmail.

Until she comes to an agreement with ALL her creditors (or those who currently hold her debt) then all her sovereign property is open to expropriation.
It is a beautiful ship, it will be bought by some Russian oligarch who will place it on the Thames underneath the Shard as a floating restaurant selling Kirchner burgers. I expect that is where it's future lies. Be good for it to have a real purpose for once.

Although they may have given it some thought, the Argentine Navy must have dismissed any chance of attempting a breakout. The Ghanaian Navy may only have patrol vessels, but some are equipped with Exocet. Not to mention the fact (as others have pointed out) that Ghana can call on the Nigerian Navy (which has considerably more vessels) and even request help from the UK and our SSN on patrol in the South Atlantic.
Argentina remembers very well what a nuclear submarine can do to their navy. It was only by a stroke of luck that they did not lose two ships when the Belgrano went down. I doubt that they will give a breakout much thought from now on.
If anything, I suspect that they will sink their own vessel at its moorings to inconvenience the Ghanaians.
You have to love it when the Peronists get pinched. They are inveterate crooks. CFK is in trouble. She will have to pay off the recalcitrant bondholders. Argentina needs a revolution with some blood this time. Break out the guillotine for CFK, porker Maximo and all the top echelon Peronists. Plus confiscate their properties and their Swiss bank accounts. It has all been stolen from the people.

@22 What???? Don't you read anything? The vessel is detained because argieland is refusing to pay some of its debts. This is laudable, how? That it is a naval vessel is irrelevant. Argieland waived its ”immunity“. So it's fair game. Argieland still has debts to pay and a US court has said that it must pay ALL creditors, not just those that agreed to accept 30%!

Other reasons the US will back Argentina: NML owners are Republican donors, so it's a way to punish rivals of the Admin; and because it sends a message to the Last Holdouts who hurt the other debtholders by refusing to go along with the majority settlement, which helps break financial deadlock and get the show on the road.
