The reality though is far from what Argentina sees as countries supporting their claims. FOr example Chinese companies wanting to buy Falklands' fish and oil Chilean President in the UK wanting to further their relations with the UK and promising that shipping will not be stopped to the Falklands. It seems to me that everyone is just giving lip service to Argentina whereas the truth is that it's just business as usual, the only ones missing out on the growth of the Falklands is actually Argentina!!!! WIll they ever learn???? I doubt it, poor old Argentina is sinking - perhaps someone will throw them a lifeline........?

The “Patagonian toothfish” is also known as Chilean sea bass. So what does it have to do with an argie. It is found around most sub-Antarctic islands. You would do far better claiming for the Patagonian weasel.

Argentina has only existed since 1853. That's not 6000 years is it?
Patagonia was a name given by Magellan not the indigenous population and the squid don't care whether they're called Patagonian, Chilean, Falkland, Asian or French. It's completely irrelevant.
They were caught by Falkland fishermen and taken to this seafood event in China. The Chinese don't care if the squid are Patagonian, French, Polynesian, Falkland or Mongolian.
They only care if they taste good, and can be bought for a reasonable price.

Just my two cents but as far as I see it China supports an Argentinian claim to sovereignty of the Falkland Islands because they also ascribe to both the idea of randomly turning back the historical clock and territorial integrity when it comes to making sovereignty claims. Obviously in both cases selecting a notion of territorial integrity and a historical time period that best suits them just see the South China Sea.

I never knew territorial integrity spread to animals/birds/fish that happen to share a name with a place although I do think it would make the world that little bit more interesting. Just think of the exciting trade disputes if Atlantic City decides to make a claim to all the Atlantic Cod that are caught or the Portuguese Navy has to take responsibility for every injury at the hands of a Portuguese Man O' War jellyfish.
Save the squid, as Cristina called for earlier in the year =)
