The Brazilian government extended tax breaks to the country's construction industry in a new effort to encourage investment and boost flagging growth which is putting pressure on the government to further include other stimuli measures. Read full article

    The idea is that the tax-breaks will lose income for the government, but they will stimulate much more economic activity and home-ownership - such that the broad-based tax-take gained will be much more than the narrow-based tax foregone.

    I have found, from personal experience, that the outcome for the home-owner is that it becomes virtually impossible to get a jobbing building crew for private work; they are all off on 'high' wages on the big construction sites.

    But it is marvelous seeing the skyline change almost on a daily basis,
    .... so different from the UK where the skyline seems 'set in amber'.
