Seems like the “peaceful” people of Brazil are militarizing the south atlantic. Though these seem more geared to something like a border war.

I wonder if the Brazilian version of the GSRS will actually have enough storage space inside for it's crew's gear (unlike the US version).

we have CP30 (30km) and develop CP90 (90km whit a seeker) - But ASTROS was proben in combat , http://www.army-technology.com/projects/astros/astros2.html and is a very good system, even americans are glad tu use them in GULF-
Brazil has more missiles systems, developed whit SA (Darter), or indigenous, same as MAR-1 (EXOCET KIND), etc-

We are very happy ;) because reduce our dependence of countries like YOU-

    Regards!

At first glance I noticed looking at photographs, is that the M270 carried 12 of what I assume is standard munitions, whilst the ASTROS carries four. That's a threefold increase of firepower per vehicle and per unit. It's also tracked, and does not need stabilizing, as seems does the ASTROS, those are hydraulic legs I see in the photograph? Drive up shoot and scoot.

However, as always, it will come down to one thing cost!

Venezuela to the north and a lesser worry, argentina to the south, they might need protection. But then again, maybe they are militarizing the South Atlantic. But I would think that they are nt in the communist frame of mind as much as their neighbors are.....so yes, not such a “MR. Rogers Neighborhood.”

From the same website you linked to.

''Deliveries of Astros II started during 1983 and the system is operational in the Brazilian Army, Saudi Arabian Defence Force and the Malaysian Army. The system is battle proven, having been used in action by the Iraqi Army in the Gulf Wars. Saudi Arabian systems were used during the Gulf conflict in 1991.''

Please tell me where it mentions the USA using them?

The MAR-1 targeting surveillance radars and fire-control radars and is not like ''exocet kind''

Do you wish less reliance on the West. Then do not use GPS, which of course all these weapons you mention were built around!

Go pay for your own version of GPS. Good luck, it costs billions.

GPS é um sistema satelital, nada a ver com UDA ou UE. O Brasil está lançando um satélite militar agora em março/2013 para compor um sistema de dois satélites voltados exclusivamente para a defesa.
“GPS is a satelite system. Brasil launching more one satelite for defense in march/2013. ”

GPS needs a good 24 to 30 satelittes to be effective.....so one more is not going to do very much.

Will the rockets be used against Paraguay ?

Good news for SA defense industry and UNASUR. A lot of rocket development going on in SA right now.
Some Turnips are suggesting that these systems are for use against each other in SA. These systems are meant for modernization and export. A way of becoming independent in defense.
A joint GPS system is in the works. Many of the components were sent up on SAC-D for testing.

Christ and he call himself a yank!

Fuckwit. what real army is going to buy these. when you, if you are indeed a you, can supply, M270's.

Jesus, the first time they appear in the field against the M270. They are dead.
Nice piece of kit for skirmishes, yes, go up against the big boys and excuse the language, but well and trully fucked.

Paraguay is a mber of UNASUR. No enemy there. M270 and these systems are not designed to go up against each other, that is unlikely it would happen in any scenario. These systems will be sold to countries that want them if they fot their defense plans. The bottom line is, which is the most economical system that satifies each nations requirement.

Crap! whoever they sell them to had better know their limitations and not take them up against a professional army equipped with the M270, with all of it's component arms. They will get blown back to the fucking stone age! and that's being kind.

Nice bit of kit.Very nice kit! but it's like a feather weight taking on a heavy weight, or a mouse, trying to fuck a elephant.

That's the way it is. Buy this stuff within those parameters, but for christ sake, stay away from the big boys!!! or you will have lost a lot of money.

These look like they have only 4 artillery rockets and our M-270 fires 12. Either way these are conventional warfare weapons, for use against divisional or even corp size battles. When you start a conventional campaign and soften up the engagement area with several weeks of an air campaign, I am not sure if any of these will be left.

Can't say I approve of the industry, but its interesting Brazil has its own homegrown one unlike most of the “third world”. Also interesting the right wing dictatorship armed Saddam, that was when he was the west's best mate...

Must be sad for you BK to watch your nation self destruct. Perhaps argentina can get it's act together after the “cunt of argentina” stop stinking up the place. Perhaps they have already, she's been out of sight for some time now.

#32 “Must be sad for you BK to watch your nation self destruct”

It is, but I believe Britain will survive seperatism with a No vote in the 2014 referendum, and eventually learn that austerity doesn't work, and move to the left. At least thats what I'm campaigning for, I'm not just going to sit by and watch...
