Argentina says Falklands’ issue “smells too much like petroleum

[2] “The UN was clear when indicating, in numerous times, that both nations should discuss the matter immediately. Once the UK decides to sit down and talk, it won’t take that long to find a final solution”.
Well in [2] we find that his belief is that bilateral 'negotiations' where he already said the final solution is argentine administration and he'll accept nothing more, and it will not take long.
So from [1] and [2] we learn that the Argentines truly believe that they bring nothing to a negotiation consisting of the UK and themselves, and bringing nothing to the negotiation they will walk out with everything, including full administration of the islands.
Has he been in a car accident that involved a head injury? or is he just some kind of magical negotiator?
What a knob-end.
He's obviously not read the “ample coverage in all the media”. As a diplomatic effort, this was on a par with George H W Bush puking on Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa. Except that wasn't planned.

However the hypothetical question I'd like to know is that if we Falkland Islanders stayed on, and then we completely and totally ignored the argentines, and simply carried on in our unique way, that is:
We paid our taxes to FIG, not argentina,
We continued to drive on the right and not on the left,
we continued to obey the laws of the FIG and not argentina,
We carry on electing our own MLA’s,
We carry on making our own laws, we carry on attending international conferences as the Falkland Islands and not as islas malvinas,
we carry on flying our flags etc), we behaved as though these people and their institutions did not exist.
What would or could argentina do..?

But, it is clear, they want to occupy and have complete sovereignty over those islands. This has already been communicated.
What exactly is it they would “talk” about?
They want to talk about when we can give them the islands, nothing else. They don't want to negotiate anything as their constitution states any talks can only end in them having the islands, they don't want the people to be able to decide anything for themselves (which hints that they wouldn't have democracy under Argie occupation either...?!) They want to sit and spout lie after lie about what happened and when, call the UK a country of imperialists and then state how they want to force themselves on another population without realising the irony.

The usual states will come on side with them, those with similiar sovereignty problems and old imperial axes to grind, but the vast majority, will see it for what it is, a legal excercise of democratic process as enshrined within the charter.
I for one am looking forward to seeing it? the Argentine Ambasssador to the UN lecturing the members on the meaning of Article 1:2. Trying to convince them, that in fact there are cases, where Human Rights only apply to some and not others. He might even, just might, list those people. It would be poor tactics to say it is only the Falkland Islanders who do not have those rights. God forbid, they would leave themself open to accusations of bias and discrimination.
It is truly astounding that they have no idea how this is going to make them look to the rest of the world, what is even more astounding is, they actually believe what they are saying.

Yes but they have form on this.. 1982. So far as the Argentine people were concerned they had won. It was a done deal. The British wouldn't come. Then the British did come but it was okay because the British got their arses kicked. The Argentines were winning and winning and winning. They just kept on winning and then one day, totally unexpected, totally and inexplicably. They lost.
So accusing others of doing exactly what they are doing is standard practice. Lying and theiving are a way of life and a cultural more. Racism is good, it is applauded in Malvinista Land. Falkland Islanders are not the same as other Latin Americans so they must be driven out, persecuted, threatened, invaded, destroyed.
Only they can't do that becase Mother is watching very closely, protecting. She was a little negligent in 1982, took her eye off the ball but not today. He seems quite convinced he can, but as a failed journalist and failed politician and prolific usurer I'm personally not sure what would happen in bilateral negotiations, given that he's bringing sod all to the table.
From what I remember about negotiation, this would be a distributive negotiation (zero-sum), with one party bringing nothing and the other party giving away everything. This win-lose scenario isn't dependent on anything that Argentina brings to the table, because they have nothing.
The only factor determining the outcome would therefore be what is said or done in the actual negotiation. So what is he going to say or do that is so powerful?
Also the ZOPA (zone of possible agreement) for the UK in 1970s has changed dramatically, it is now is 'whatever the islanders want goes', for the Islanders it is 'whatever the referendum says' and for Argentina it is 'we want absolute sovereignty'
This isn't a negotiation.
The three main strategies for getting someone to the table in the first place: Offer Incentives; Put a price on the Status Quo; and Enlist Support. Well, Argentina doesn't really have anything anyone needs, and given their recent behaviour have taken away everything making the islanders self-sufficient to many extents. The cost of not negotiating is not high, because we don't really have a huge amount of trade with Argentina and we don't trust them. We Islanders have always know that the dispute has never been really over implanted people or British trying to steel the Falklands but over OIL . We have known for a very, Very long time that the Greedy Argentines took control of the coast line of their Country because they knew almost 150 years ago that one day this area would be rich in the resources extracted from or under the seas of the South Atlantic. Nearly all wars and disputes of soveriegnty have started either from Religeon or Oil.
Sorry Argentina but as it happens this is our patch and you will never get your hands on it in any legal form anytime soon or indeed in the very distant future.
The Falklands are just beginning a period of wealth that will cement our very existance. While Argentina has reached the top of their mountain and are now falling back down again and they need any resourse they can get their hands on. Sorry but what belongs to the Falklads is for it's people.
