Excellent. Latin America rallies round in solidarity. Capriles and his hospital burning thugs only have the support of the likes of yankeeboy. Viva Maduro!

Looks like panic and over reaction to me.
Why not just do a recount with outside observers?
    What are they afraid of?
    I think I know...

Also I think it is hilarious all of these countries that civilized countries ignore think that if they band together gives them some sort of clout or relevance.

Considering UnaSur has no diplomatic recognition outside of SA i don't see why they even bother. It makes them look pathetic.

With such a thin margin or voctory they should have a recount to solidy the win. Even maduro at first siad ok to the recount, then recanted that statement.
In the end it should not matter to countries with immitation democracies whether the USA endorses the election or not. To have an emergency meeting of unasur is a waste of time......but it gives them something to do.
If Dilma was smart and looking for trade brownie point before her mission to the USA, she would be saying something to the effect.

“we endorse Maduro but also believe a recount would be prodent based on the razor thin margin of victory”.

Dictocracy in action. But as we all agree, it is best for democracy in venezuela in the long run.

5 When did the individual members of SA cede Sovereignty to Unasur?
Mayhap I missed that announcement somewhere.

    Gads you are dumb.

Unasur is not recognized BY ANY FOREIGN NATION HAS NO EMBASSIES NOR HAS AN AMBASSADOR.
Or did I miss that too.

They're just a regional group trying to be relevant but after all of these years still no major country recognizes them.

It just amazes me that any intelligent person would not want a recount in a tight race, within a day or two it would remove any shadow of a doubt & bring normality to the situation

As it stands now chaos & uncertainty will rule for months ahead but Maduro was obviously told by his advisors that all the tricks in the book were used to assure his victory & that a recount would highlight all this

Unasur have their man in power at the moment thinking of all the subsidized oil they will receive & are trying desperately to justify his election but it all seems like an act of desperation to me........& most of the free world!

    12. Usually what you want and what you have are two very different things.
The USA controls 10% of Argentina's GDP and is the largest employer in the country.
Brazil is your largest trading partner

Although I think the USA is going to let Argentina fail spectacularly and make Brazil pick up the pieces.
We'll have to wait just a little longer to see if that plays out.

Probably sick & tired of the Argentine Reich causing so many problems and contributing f-all.

Chile, Peru, and Colombia have their own thing going. And those are the only countries in South America going anywhere. They're technically members of UNASUR, but that's only so they don't get left out of anything regional they should know about. Really, those three countries couldn't give less of a fuck what happens to Brazil/Argentina, just as the rest of the world doesn't care what happens to them, they're so perpetually mismanaged, that they're sure to never become powerhouses/successes.
Brazil is importing fuel, lol, its stadiums for World Cup are condemned or behind schedule.
And Argentina's just a pure fuckin disaster and has been since 1960's.
Your history of perpetual self destruction and mismanagement will NEVER end, and you will NEVER stop blaming it on everyone else.

I suspect you think that addition, subtraction, multiplication and division is also 'mathematics' WRONG.

17 - Yankeegirl, your own racism will eventually bring you down. If the US isn't worried about “housekeepers and gardeners”, then why is it so desperately trying to gain back it's lost influence in South America?

18 - The US is the only country that has sistematically being involved in overthrowing democratic governments in Latin America. What Unasul is doing is sending a message to the US that it will not tolerate the overthrowing of democratic governments anymore. This was clear on Paraguay.

19 - Chile has hundreds of thousands of students protesting in the streets to try to have what we already have in Brazil: free public universities. Colombia is an example of what? And Peru? Seriously you're derranged. What World Cup stadium is condemned? And as far as the World Cup goes, it's a year away. I guess what you were trying to talk about is the Confederations Cup, but I don't you're bright enough to know the difference, and a stadium which has nothing to do with the World Cup or the Confederation's Cup. Just keep on being jealous of Brazil, sounds like a Brazilian gave your wife a good time in bed and you're angry.

I am proud and glad we can overthrow corrupt gov'ts. It takes a lot of effort and skill.

I don't think you know what the term DICTATOR means and getting elected is not a criteria. Best example is Hitler, he was democratically elected and everything he did was legal under German law. Substitute Chavez and Venezuela if you want.

CFK is a Dictator by definition, so was Chavez

Especially when it has such wonderful results as what happened with the Shah in Iran and the arming of the Taliban in Afghanistan to get the soviets out.

Those overthrows worked wonderfully for your people:

    Famous quotes:

“The only white man you can trust is a dead white man.” – Robert Mugabe

“I want you to know that everything I did, I did for my country.”- Pol Pot

“Equality means nothing unless incorporated into the institutions.” – Slobodan Milosevic

    “Equality means

“To sum it all up, I must say that I regret nothing.” – Adolf Eichmann

“Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas.” – Josef Stalin

“I didn’t say ‘former president,’ I said ‘president,’ and I have the constitutional rights according to the constitution, including immunity from prosecution.” – Saddam Hussein

Quotes of elected dictators, socialists and plain old evil men. I choose Sadam's last as I hope the people of argentina will get their shot together and those will be KFC's last words.

Everyone in South America thinks anyone more powerful than them are imperialists. But a blind eye remains to CHina.

Don't lie, Chile has MAYBE 10's of thousands, not hundreds of thousands, if even that much protesting.
And Brazil is a disaster because of its socialism, and because of its corruption/mismanagement. I don't wish that on Chileans. Brazilians LOVE Chile. When I was in Chile there were tons of Brazilians there looking for work and gushing over how wonderful a country it is.
If I had been born in Brazil, I would have done ANYTHING to get out, ANYTHING! including risking my life and doing dangerous, illegal things. But if I had been born in Chile...I'd be alright with that, I might make no effort at all to go to USA or UK, I might be happy just the way things were.

The mutual love is growing day by day between all South American nations. One thing is politics, another is the people communicating like never before. Nobody put that into question, and all is as it should be. What most of us dislikes though, is the British military presence in the southern cone, as the US intereference in Colombia. Argentina’s international reserves will drop to $37.5 billion as capital controls erode the country’s trade balance, according to JPMorgan Chase & Co.

JPMorgan’s estimate of a $5.5 billion decline in central bank funds this year assumes that capital controls will prevent a pickup in private-sector outflows. Reserves dropped to $39.8 billion yesterday, below $40 billion for the first time since May 2007.

“Capital controls threaten to exert an adverse toll on expectations of economic performance,” JPMorgan analysts including New York-based Vladimir Werning wrote in an e-mailed research report.

Argentina’s merchandise trade balance will be $9.6 billion this year, according to JPMorgan, down from a previous estimate of $11.6 billion.

JPMorgan cut its 2013 “agro bonus” forecast, the estimated increase in agriculture-related exports, to $4.8 billion from $6.7 billion. It projected soy crop output of 45 million tons, down from a prior estimate of 51.5 million tons. The bank raised its corn output estimate for this year to 25 million tons from 24 million tons.

YPF SA (YPFD), the oil company that the Argentine government seized in April 2012, was projected to import $600 million worth of fuel this year.

Anyhow it is a huge topic and there are many other factors behind the protests...not going to go into it now. More broadly free doesn't equal better and all of South America’s university education is lacking. Chilean and Brazilian universities dominate the top 10, but we are still a long way down the international rankings.

UNASUR taking care of SA problems is fine from a Brazilian perspective (as the regional giant), but not so appealing from a Chilean perspective (as one of the smallest countries). Brazil forcing its agenda is no different to the US forcing its.

    34. You're right about the Progressives and the murders in their cities. Look at how crime has skyrocketed under CFK and Chavez. Even here in the USA where ever there is a huge amount of crime in a city/state and it is deteriorating due to lack of infrastructure spending it is run by Democrats. The left loves to drain the system of everyone elses money until there is nothing left and then wants a bail out.

Perfect examples are Detroit and the State of California. Once beautiful bastions of capitalism and commerce but over the last 30-40 years they've been ruined by Progressives and may never recover.

    “Most of the world”?

    Chinese languages... 1.2 billion
    Hindi... 300 million
    Spanish ... 400 million
    Russian + Japanese ... 300 million
    German + Italian... 170 million
    French... 100 million
    Arabic languages... 300 million
    Portuguese ... 200 million
    bengali... 200 million

    That's 3.5 billion right there

    next 20 languages... 500+ million

That's more than 4 billion.. .that's over half the planet. And the other 3 billion most don't speak english.

Play your sports? most of “your” sports have existed in some fashion for millenia, from football to tennis. They just had variated rules but for the most part, archeological evidence is overwhelming that many of the same sports were played throughtout human history and in Asian, Amerindian cultures as well.

Your music? Only because people are godamn retarded and have been brainwashed into thinking English language music is better. In fact it is the worst because its just regurgitated crap. I NEVER listen to english music anymore.

Your literature?? SINCE WHEN?? lol... absolutely no one with any knowledge or that's involved in writing will say that there are ANY important english-language authors... the fact “J.K Rowling” is so revered when she is a mediocre writer at best that would have never been published anywhere else is all the evidence you need.

You can't name ONE acclaimed English-language author. Just in Spanish you can name several current ones that are considered GREATS: Garcia Marquez, Vargas Llosa... in Portuguese Coelho. English? Zip.

Democracy? I thought that was the Greeks, last I checked.

Your Justice? Last I checked most of the western world was in civil law, a calque of Roman law.

I'll give you credit for the panoply of vocabulary that your languages possesses, more than any other I know. And for parlamentarianism.

When you guys present an example of a prosperous society, the Nordic ones are often mentioned. Reasonable, as they do lead each and every list you like to point at.
When presenting writers you mention Dickens.... Try Mark Twain as well. Excellent writer.

    And both socialists.
Just as the countries of the north you like to refer to.
70 years of socialism led them where they are today.

So continue phrasing the victories of socialism, I can only agree with you.

There are none of worth mentions.

Again....nothing but an OPINION......like your asshole, everyone has one. But here's something. Has Argentina decided to install storm drains so you do not have emergency floods.....or is kirchner still stealing the money? That's a fact johnny

The comment previously made was that there were no English writers worth mentioning.

Their success in writing had little to do with whether they were socialists or not.

Of course their success has everything to do with them being socialists, for obvious reasons, they are the ones to reach out to the masses.

I've read Tolkien. Beautiful language, wits in the lines. I've read George Martin as well. From USA, impressive dialogue and raw reality in his texts.
But lets be fair, you can't compare fiction with reality...

Hi, I’ve just published a novel based in Venezuela which tackles the issues of power and corruption under Chávez within the framework of a fictional story of arms and drug smuggling. The similarities with Argentina are stunning - who would want to be supported by this group of leftie failures??

    Details at: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/306942

Hope you like the book - it's all in there!!

How strange, Stevie claims to be a Tupa anarchist and now is praising socialist writers!!!!!!!

He specially points out George Orwell as an “excellent writer”, and Orwell was the writer who constantly wrote about the horrors of fascist authoritarianism, and here we have Stevie supporting CFK's fascist (mis)government as well as Chávez's now inhereted by “Pajarito” Maduro!!!!!!!

I'm amazed at the incoherence of these supposed socialists!!!!!!

    Your first comment was:-

“Your literature?? SINCE WHEN?? lol... absolutely no one with any knowledge or that's involved in writing will say that there are ANY important english-language authors... the fact “J.K Rowling” is so revered when she is a mediocre writer at best that would have never been published anywhere else is all the evidence you need.”

“I’m convinced that a recount was (would be) good for the electoral process” underlined Insulza, Chairman (?) of the Organization of American States, OAS.
The USA and the EU nations apparently think similarly.

Yes, it is only sensible for fellow Lefty presidents of South America to hold to the general proposition 'My fellow Bolivarians, right or wrong'.
It would break the consensus if any broke ranks to question the process or the 'result'. The election had the intended outcome, and the means to the outcome can only get embarassing if proceedural questions are allowed.

It might be that the actual pressing of the buttons was done ethically (“Press here once” rather than “Press here once but come back six times”) but, with the whole of the machine of state engaged in 'stacking' the votes, one has to say that this is as far away from a democratic election as it could be.
I have seen similar sorts of thing in North East Brasil, and would say it bears so little resemblance to a British election process that it really deserves a different name.

Quite wrong, her books have been published in over 67 languages, so your claim that they “would have never been published anywhere else” is absolute balls!!!!!!

Who defines “great literature” ? Many of the“great writers” are practically unreadable to the average punter.
I am sure that their is good literature in all languages but it requires a more than basic skill in any language to extract the full meaning and nuances of the writing.
A better judge of an author is how many languages into which they have been translated. J K Rowling writes books for children which seem to have hit a resonant spot worldwide.
Nobody would claim it is great literature - but it is what the public want.
GREATS: Garcia Marquez, Vargas Llosa... in Portuguese Coelho.
Never heard of them ! In whose opinion are they greats ? In the Hispanic/Latino world? Good for you ! Are translations available. They are probably unreadable.I must look for them in my local Waterstons

Music, yes there is a lot of crap music about in ALL countries, again it is what you like to listen to. It's like art , you either like it or you don't and no one can convince you either way.
As to sports most of the modern ones were codified and regulated in the 19th century in the UK. and adopted world wide. Very few games were invented from scratch with the possible exceptions of billiards and snooker.
English is used as a desirable second language mainly because of the USA and because of the relics of Britain's colonial past.
In India, the most prestigious schools teach their lessons in English. Educated Chinese have English as a top priority subject.
Why do you speak and read English ? It is not a requirement in Argentina or any S.American country. You don't need it as you will never leave your homeland and hate everything to do with the UK. If you don't hear or see it, your life could be pleasant and complete. Spanish should suffice.

By the way, I have asked you twice already on your view of Italian/Spanish immigrants arriving in Argentina. As Europeans do you still hate them or are they magically transformed into blameless Argentinians ?

#82 - Paulo Coelho isn't good literature, it's commercial and sells well, and that's all that there is to it. He was a great songwriter for Raul Seixas though. If you want good portuguese-language literature, you should look for Machado de Assis, Saramago, Aluísio de Azevedo, Dalton Trevisan, Clarice Lispector amongst others. Just wanted to point that out.
