    lol South American unity.
Meanwhile, I'm on Mabul Island, just got back from my 2nd day of Open Water PADI course, still have 7 more days and nights on this glorious island, and then Sipadan Island. Life is glorious for first worlders......can't even imagine the horrors of being Argentine right now

It's just a matter of time before Brasil goes it alone in dealing with the rest of the world anyway. Argentine policy will help Basil in the long run, as it is taking their only rival in South America out of the world picture.

All Brazil has to do is stop letting in cars and car parts from Argentina. A couple months of that right about now would quickly resolve this issue.
    Watch for it

Troy, its AMAZING here, seriously mind blowing. I'm diving mostly Mabul and Kapalai right now, but then I'll finish with Sipadan. Mabul and Kapalai are considered #1 for macro/muck diving in the world, and Sipadan's considered #1 or within top 3 depending on who you talk to, for large pelagic species. Sea turtles galore on all the islands here. The visibility is incredible, over 30 meters, the water deliciously warm, and the quantity and quality of fish life is mind boggling. I seriously think it doesn't get better than this anywhere.

The prices are ludicrously cheap. I got my Open Water Dive course, along with Advance Open Water, and Sipadan, with 9 days and nights of my own room, 3 meals a day and snacks/drinks, boat to/from Semporna, jetty fees, etc all for 800 bucks. Flight from Kuala Lumpur to Borneo and back was only 30 bucks each way, 40 with baggage.

Also did the Kinabatangan river cruise, was awesome, and after here I go to climb Mount Kinabalu and some trekking.

I suspect that this is all very disillusioning for Dilma.

Brazil bought the whole “Mercosur trading bloc, shared prosperity” pitch, in the name of SA solidarity, only to find that the only one benefitting is Argentina.

CFK also brought along her dysfunctional cousin, Venezuela, and then broke the trade rules of Mercosur, to the detriment of Brazil.

After allowing herself to be jollied along by lies and empty promises from CFK, Dilma is embarrassed and angry. You can bet she has some awkward situations with Brazilian investors and important corporations like Vale.

Betrayed by CFK. Brazil will do better without Argentina.

Not good to jab the giant next door.

Troy, After Soy, cars are the next biggest item brining in desperately needed U$, Dilma should let the cars sit in customs over the winter, destabilize CFK and then “help” the next gov't get in place.
At least that is what I would do

I've never liked Dilma, I think she unqualified for the position and is squandering the meager gains they have made over the last decade.

She knows she was played and now looks weak and foolish.

Payback is a B*tch though and an angry betrayed women with $, a military, clandestine services can do a lot of damage.

I commented on this situation yesterday but I think pretty much everyone outside of Argentina is standing back knowing there is no way they can avoid a complete economic crash. They can only hope they don't take too much shrapnel and will only start to rebuild relationships when the K's are gone.

In many ways the US and Argentina's 'close' neighbours have done more than is necessary to warn and coax CFK away from her disastrous policies. But CFK is out of her depth and has been since Nestor stopped telling her what to do. Now she is just out of control.

No one really wants to see the people of a country suffer the consequences of a corrupt oligarchy like the Kirchners. It will be the working and middle class that will suffer the most.

Elaine, I hope the destruction this crazy women brings onto Millions of people is so severe and devastating that they actually wake up and get the kleptocracy out of Argentina once and for all.
It is just a hope though I don't see it happening unless the military takes over and they get someone like Pinochet in there for a generation to “fix” the corruption once and for all. They need to have the stupid knocked out of them.

When I moved to Argentina after the last crash I had the hope they'd learn and instead the Ks bankrupted/stole every U$ in the country. There is nothing left for the new gov't to build upon, no seed corn left for next year!

They need to hit rock bottom so there is no question that the system has to change.
I just don't see it happening without a ruthless dictator to pull out the weeks to let the garden grow.

I can't support the actions of Pinochet in their entirety and I think time has moved on for regimes of his type. What Pinochet did was keep politics, the forces and economics separate. That way he could apply different strategies to each area. His switch to a free market economy was a bitter pill for the people to have to swallow and they suffered the changes for over a decade. (If you talk to people that went through it, it was grim and humiliating). I don't believe you need a political dictatorship to achieve a change in economic model. What you need is a willingness of the people to work hard for a better future. JMO

It is interesting that when I was last in Buenos Aires people were saying that they were better off under the military. I don't happen to agree and think they have short memories but when you feel helpless and hopeless it is easy to swing from one extreme to another without considering the consequences.

I also don't know that Argentinean society has the constitution to go through the necessary process to build a more stable economy. I don't mean to be insulting but the idea of working hard to achieve something long-term seems anathema to a large section of the population. (I know that a proportion do work hard and try to achieve success but they cannot support a whole economy).

I would like to think you are right that a hard lesson would be learned and someone with genuine intent is elected next time but that would require an entire shift in social thinking. Corruption is endemic, not just in the government.

16 It is interesting that when I was last in BS AS people were saying that they were better off under the military.

I live in BA and never heard that. For more than 30 years people believes in democracy, not going back to the military. Just see the last cacerolazos, nobody talking of anything military.
And there is nothing good to be said of a militar golpista government. Pinochet was a militar genocida and that governned by force, not democracy. A shame for Chile and Latin Am.

Arentina's govt. has zero credibility, zero honour, zero integrity.

Any country that 'has' to deal with Argentina must hedge their bets with every deal, no organisation should expect to invest or trade with Argentina without total loss of investment.

Argentina seems to be one of the few countries (with Venezuela & perhaps Bolivia) who think that they can impose import controls, dollar restrictions & peso overvaluation & still expect that they can export their products without restrictions

This may work for a while when you have a hard headed, arrogant, autocratic leader like CFK but when you come across another one like Rouseff, your policies quickly backfire........pull the other one Crissy, it's got bells on!!!

    16. I don't see this as much different than when the Romans had to “elect” dictators to deal with endemic corruption or some other catastrophe.

I think Democracy in Argentina has proved to be a failed experiment. Due to ingrained corruption in their society and their under educated population.
Democracy is a worthy goal but that doesn't mean every country/society can make it work.
I use Pinochet as an example mainly because he was next door, not all the Dictators were “bad”, his methods may have been rough but I think the outcome can't be denied.
I don't see how Argentina could or would ever “elect” someone to fix the country. It must be fixed with brutal force or continue is grinding pace to turn itself into Bolivia.

Argentinians are strong with the weak and weak with the strong
If you put every move the country has ever made in this context they are very easy to predict.

I will tell you something that I am sure most of my detractors won't believe but about a month ago I was at dinner with some influential RGs and was asked to consult for the new gov't. I laughed and said I would never ever live back in that horrible place. But it does show that plans are being made.

The sooner the better in my book

@17 I believe that you have never heard that but I have.

@22 I am sure plans are afoot. First there will be a scramble amongst the people in power now to try to oust CFK and try to retain power. (I don't think the public will accept this as they are all so tainted). Then there will be a scramble amongst those in power but outside the K's oligarchy. I have no idea where it will end but it had better be someone with the charisma to rebuild relationships with neighbours and trading partners if they are ever going to have a chance to recover.

It is so very sad to see such a wealthy country , in natural resources and educated population , in such a complete mess . Rousseff is quite right in saying enough . There must be a limit to lies and double talk . And also see the comments of Uruguays Vice President . On the same lines ! But what can be done , nothing ! Not do long ago the people voted for this woman , 54 percent , and gave her a Congresional majority . So now grin and suffer . The British did the same in 1974 , voting in Labour , and by 1979 they had a mess ! Unions crazed with power , IMF coming in to save the day and general malaise . Fortunately a change in Government saved the day ! Perhaps the hope is that in Octobers election the people will wake up and trounce the Presidents candidates . Or we have to study , in depth ,the kind of democracy we want or need ! The ancient Greek system - only educated citizens could vote .

    @yankeeboy, what does RG means??,
Do you think that military occupation would make things better?
Argentine had the worst times for cultural freedom cause the militar occupation in 76, and we still fight against the social blackholes that were imposed in the society, Militars didnt fixed anything, and its proved they were supported by external governments that seeked internal interests in the country. Argentine has to be fixed by its own people, Compromising and organizing to elect the right representation for the country and the secret to that happen, is that any president who comes in power can not be reelected. Its is proved here, that any president beyond 4 years, disrupts the economy. The Politics has to become more clear and for long term directions, and the FMI has to start speaking a more transparent language to the Arg future govs to exchange progress, and not to disrupt development.

I like Dilma and she at least is tackling corruption unlike Lula. However she is faltering after a good start and seems unable to get herself a decent finance minister, one who does not lie would be a good start.

You would have thought that the intelligence service would have warned her about TMBOAs severe bi-polarism when she took office, unless of course she ignored them.

Perhaps now she will be more cautious with TMBOA.

BTW, those who ‘Think’ VW AR export cars to Brasil should stand on Ruta 9 and watch the car transporters FULL of VWs coming south to MVD eight or ten in convoy. With an average of 10 per transporter that’s 100 cars at a time and they never seem to stop, they CAN’T ALL be going to UYU sale can they? Perhaps they have a block booking on the ferry.

    BK you ignore :

“However Cristina Fernandez last November has personally promised Dilma that the controversy with the Vale potassium development, a 6 billion dollars investment, would have an economic and not a political solution, including a positive result for the fiscal incentives promised.
None of this happened and Vale has left Argentina after sustaining death threats to their top staff, and paying for redundancies, plus hopes of recovering the 3 billion invested by some potential more audacious corporation.”

    and

“Earlier in the year in a meeting in Brazil to address auto industry complementation issues Moreno tried the same primary tactics but was stopped immediately. The head of Brazil’s National Industry Confederation is alleged to have sternly said: “these methods were not even used under Stalin or the Soviet Union; we will not tolerate them”.”

    and

“Brazil’s main disappointments with Argentina include the surge of authorized imports from China, 8%, while Brazilian imports were frozen down 17% in the same period.”

    and

“The macroeconomic policy implemented by Argentina and the handling of the foreign exchange issue, which limits Brazilian investments. In the case of Vale the corporation was not prepared to bring US dollars at 5.20 Pesos and face local costs influenced by 24% inflation and a 9.80 Pesos dollar.”

    and

“The manipulation of the tender process to build two huge dams in Santa Cruz which left out Brazilian corporations and were handed to two businessmen very closely linked to the Kirchner family.”

But with one sentence SHARED no less with the UN and you come away with the key idea of the article is the Brazil would sever relations because of USA message.

It's National Socialism without a strong enough military to attack their neighbours.

Still the military is not completely useless, it is probably strong enough to attack its own civilian population particularly if it can get help from allied paramilitary organisations.

Argentinas main military successes have been against lightly protected civilian populations - war of the desert, occupation of the Falklands, Dirty War etc..

They probably have to attend the nearest Argentine embassy to receive their 'payment'. LOL

But I think you're right. What we have here is someone who hates the 'West' so will jump on any bandwagon to slag off the West, yet at the same time they're holding out their hands for welfare cheques, and benefiting from the very thing that they 'hate'.

Like all such people, the purport to support Socialism in its extreme forms. What they don't understand is that, should their wishes come true and their extreme Socialist society arrive, they are going to be the 1st against the wall!

Just like when Hitler got rid of the SA and used his new puppets the SS to do the dirty work. People like Think who constantly complain, and never appreciate what they actually have in life, would be the biggest danger to an imposed Socialist (or National Socialist) dictatorship, and would have to go.

However, back to the thread. Cristina's economic model continues it's downwards spiral.

We can only hope that she is allowed to stay President for another term. That way she can be sure she's destroyed Argentina forever.

I don't think Argneitna can be destroyed. But CFK can do enough damage that it could take a generation to repair. I don't see this as a good thing, but indeed a tragedy not only for the average Argentinean but also for the region.

The world doesn't gain by Argentina collapsing again. Chile and Uruguay don't gain from the economic shock waves any collapse might cause.

Will CFK gain eligibility to be reelected? Perhaps. With steady erosion of civil society and democratic safeguards there is a chance.

Will CFK be reelected? Again perhaps. For the same reason.

But without massive changes to their current economic model, Argentina will indeed face economic ruination.

Models that bring high short term gain always come at a price.

Argentina is starting to pay the price. And is not rich Argentineans like CFK or other politicians that will feel the pain the most.

It is the average Argentine, and it is a shame that there are so few on here willing to have their voices heard.

@72 I agree with some of the points you make. Argentina will continue as a country but will have a severe set-back, once again eroding the gains some of the population have made to improve their lives. Like must feel like Sisyphus, condemned to repeat the same difficult task only to have to repeat it ad infinitum.

I also agree that no one benefits from the collapse of the Argentine economy. I think that is the reason they have been given so many chances by their neighbours, trading partners and by the organisation they use. It must be like a parent watching a drug addicted child spiral into oblivion, having their help and advice rejected, and having been lied to repeatedly, finally understanding that they have to let them fall to rock-bottom.

Unfortunately for the people of Argentina their president is a narcissist and over-medicated. She has surrounded herself with sycophants and rules by fear and bullying. I actually think those around her will turn on her first, followed by the people. I don't think she will get re-elected. Maybe under different circumstances she could have pulled it off but too many events have conspired to push her into a disadvantaged position.

I can not see there ever being a country in such a state of chaos in recent history. It's one disaster after another. Now it's in the news about the environmental disaster of the shale drilling in the Vaca Nuerta. But it is really not a problem because they are drilling right next to the homes and communities of the indigenous people of Argentina fruit orchards. We all know how Argentina treats (the few remaining) her naturals. I think the shortages in fuel for heat this winter will be the final straw. This non visit from Dilma must have put her on a thorazine IV for a week. Would anyone like to guess on April's trade balance of account? And future trade balance considering Dilma is pissed at kirchner's policies, if you can call them a policies.

We in Chile are fortunate to have a strong independent central bank and a philosophy of promoting free trade and foreign investment. We denationalized our airline and now have one of the best in the world. We encourage exports with not taxing them. We've wisely built up our armed forces and yet have not threatened our neighbors. Our citizens can freely exchange money and import just about anything from any country, without restrictions. Bribery here is almost unheard of. @94 Let me try to explain the difference to you.

There has been no suggestion of a change in the maximum of two terms for a President of the USA.

There has been considerable discussion in Argentina of changing the maximum of two term in order for CFK to run for a third term.

Are you beginning to see the difference?

    Anglotino suggested,

“Will CFK gain eligibility to be reelected? Perhaps. With steady erosion of civil society and democratic safeguards there is a chance.

Will CFK be reelected? Again perhaps. For the same reason. ”

Valid points but I don't think it will happen. I don't think the K's will be able to change the two term limit. They certainly want to and have stated as much. But that was before everything went horribly wrong for CFK.

It might be a bit tricky for you but can you see the difference now?

@72 ... you suggest they need changes to their economic model; I would suggest there is no economic model. There is no strategy, there is no plan, there is no vision, and above all there is no execution discipline or accountability for delivery. Fundamentally this government are incapable of governance. Knee jerk policies based on the last person they spoke to or the latest thing they heard from a regional source.

And if they are not honouring their promises to Brazil, do we think they are honouring any of the hundreds of agreements they've signed over the past 5 years in exchange for a joint statement on the Malvinas? Nope, not a sausage I would imagine. There are a few people in Indonesia and Vietnam for example wondering if they would ever hear anything from Argentina... No, they didn't even leave a phone number once they'd got the Malvinas reference.

But have to come clean ... CFK and her government has filled a void for me left by the collapse of communism ... There is still someone I can point and laugh at ... a guilty pleasure if ever there was one. Third term ? Fine by me !

Well at least Argentina is not taking it as seriously as Brazil. Even Planning a new commercial flight connection into Porto Alegre. From the Media: Sky Team partner, Aerolíneas Argentinas announces planned new routes for next year including Porto Alegre, Brazil, La Serena, Chile and the Islas Malvinas, currently administered by the United Kingdom.
These new exciting destinations will be in full service by the first quarter of 2014. Special tour promotions, including enticing ticket pricing will certainly be of interest for all segments of air travel customers.
Founded in 1950, Aerolíneas Argentinas is one of the leading South American carriers. From its home bases in Aeroparque Jorge Newbery and Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires, Aerolíneas Argentinas flies to 18 international destinations in The Americas, Europe and the South Pacific.
Along with Austral Líneas Aéreas, Aerolíneas operates flights to 35 destinations in Argentina, flying to more cities in the Argentine territory than any other airline. Aerolíneas provides dynamic links between Argentina and the region through its relaunched hub in Aeroparque Jorge Newbery city airport. The Aerolíneas group is carrying out an ambitious fleet renewal program.

    I say:-

“We ALL knew that Tony Blair was itching to go to war alongside his newest, bestest friend dubbuya Bush. All intelligent people knew that... maybe that's why you were so supprised huh???

    You say:-

    I say:-

”Very soon govern the UK?“ Well, their not in power yet Think-me-not. And it's a good 2 years til the next election. If you have evidence that UKip is full of ”fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists“ then please produce the proof.

Well, if CFK doesn´t get elected again may help Argentina and Brasil get a better understanding, because by their mere closeness to each other, as well as the Mercosur, they need to support each other.

And really to say only in Latam there´s trouble between politicians is a very superficial observation. The supposed trasatlantic treaty between US and Europe has a lot of problems because of trade, Canada´s treaty also is stopped at the moment. the Uk has problems with the Eurozone as well as Germany and France between each other. tbh I think with global crisis self interest and divisions in all its forms have taken place around the world.

THINK: Today was Santa Rita Casa Real Cabernet 1997. Your fault as when you mentioned Don Melchor...
#124 I think you're right, but CFK has broken just about every international agreement Argentina has, which has placed the country on the path to ruin.
in Chile, we're obviously worried about what happens if China goes into economic troubles, but we have reserves that our neighbors do not. If soy and wheat prices fall, it's going to really hurt the treasury in Buenos Aires.

    125. He is a child in a (maybe) man's body. It is common in Argentina, a lot of them never grow up to take responsibility or accept reality.
They're always completely shocked when the economy collapses.
I get a little smile when I think about some years ago when the BCRA head that is now in jail had a conference at IMF and she told the crowd Argentina is different it doesn't have the same economic rules as other nations,
    And everyone laughed at her
I am still laughing years later
The CFK gang is like a bunch of monkeys with guns
It is not going to end well

Mostly agree, don´t really think Argentina has closed every treaty but is aparent what is done now in a political and economic perspective is hurting Argentina and the rest of Mercosur. A change in head of State may be neccesary and I have hope in this as most Argentines seem convinced this gov. aproach isn´t working.
Also yes, China isn´t in reccession but is growing less so trade partners need to get ready for that. Great to hear Chile is doing well, Greetings :-)

    @86 What.
@95 Doesn't matter. Twinky has shot its bolt. I've noticed that its “contributions” have been deteriorating for some time. Its dropped to normal troll level, i.e. nauseating. It was fun at first when one might have been forgiven for thinking that one was communicating with a person, albeit a deranged one. There was the hope that one could conduct long-range psychoanalysis and effect a “miracle cure”. However, one can't help a lying psycho!
@96 Sorry, Chicky, you are now on zero for credibility. Go and play with your model planes.
@100 More of a mangelwurzel perhaps?
@106 Wasn't she once supposed to be a lawyer (joke)? Though, apparently, no-one can find any trace of her ever graduating with anything? Perhaps she got a Nestor Certificate? For being “flexible” and “receptive”!
@111 Balls? Balls? Balls how? In my book, “balls” means sticking to your educated, intelligent, reasoned point of view even if others disagree. Posting contrary dribble isn't “balls”, it's certifiable!
@115 Now here's a slob if ever there was one!
@116 Proper nations have yet to figure out how to deal with agreements with argieland. Which is strange because it's so easy. All one has to do is to write in provisions that envisage argieland breaching the agreement. Thus, if there is an agreement on, say, trade, the agreement should require argieland to put up 90% of the expected costs and profits, in cash, before anything is signed. Then it doesn't matter what the thieves do.
    @120 Dribble, dribble, dribble.
@130 You don't have that much intelligence.

#52 Well the point is, from the US and the UN, to the Vale issue, this article is basically based on gossip and right wing wish fulfillment. Cristina was right to stand up for Argentina on Vale, the more so as it was the workers' side; Dilma also could only be expected to bat for Brazil; these things happen. Perhaps her only mistake was not being firm enough fast enough, allowing Vale to bleat about “broken promises” etc later...

#78 et all Totally agree with you re Elaine, and wouldn't want to undermine your deconstruction of her rubbish, but I must say Cristina has more chance than Obama of another term (either with a changed constitution, or returning after an absence, an option she has that Obamam doesn't), not least because, unlike the flip-flopper in chief, she stands for something =)

  • ElaineB

@154 You are not really understanding Argentina at all. When I first started visiting some years ago it surprised me too, About 50% of the workers there are 'on the black' to avoid paying any tax. Most landlords want paying in dollars only, to avoid paying tax. Most hotels will ask for payment in dollars cash, to avoid paying tax. (And will give large discounts for doing so). You see, everyone, no matter if they are waiters, construction workers or whatever, will do anything to avoid putting into the economy when they can just take out. They have no understand of the 'Social Contract' that would form the basis of your idealised version of a socialist Argentina.

The majority want to break the rules and make a little extra for themselves. They dodge train fares and toll charges, anything to avoid paying, and they take great pride in it.

What they fail to see is that by failing on every level to put into society they are stealing from their neighbours, children, the sick and old. If they abandoned the black market in employment and payments, and actually paid the taxes due, their school would not resemble toilets, the teachers could be paid, their hospitals would not require them to queue for treatment from 6.00 am if they want to be seen that day, their road would be maintained etc. Need I go on?

It might be illegal to pay rent in dollars cash - I never paid any other way when I lived there - but everyone does it. And the police could care less. You have no understanding of the police force there. They will watch a mugging in front of them and do nothing unless they were bribed to move.

Sorry, but you really have no idea.

    1. I see that maybe...in Arg, one can get traveler's cheques or a prepaid Mastercard debit in PESOS.
(For up to the the value of $500 u.s. a month.)
2.Then, we here in America can xchange that, w online exchanges that will convert these pesos back to dollars at $5.15.

But I understand what you are getting at....he sends you 515 pesos at the official rate, you exchange it and send it back as U$100, he converts it to 987 pesos from the blue exchange. Btw I still think that given having a black-market-only rate is clearly technically illegal, and as oft reported on this site their is currently a government crackdown on blue dollars, the tennant should play clever and either go to a state authority that may be more interested in this particular crime at this particular time than usual, or at least threaten the landlord that he might and perhaps get the rent reduced that way =) Also, in fuller reply to #155 I don't deny the problem of corruption in Argentina (whether its as uniformly awful as you say is another matter), not least because my very credible and trustworthy comrade Think acknowledges it as a problem. But whether ordinary people should take some kind of Calvinist pride in paying an unenforced busfair while the bankers don't even pay their taxes is another matter entirely; the fish rots from the head, and Cristina's crackdown on the feral rich is the best chance Argentina has for a less corrupt culture in the longterm imho

Why don't you do your own investigations into these matters, there are plenty of websites where these claims can be validated (or dismissed).

And why question the veracity of what ElaineB states? Do you believe The Turnip In Chief over her? No wonder the commie Scottish bastards destroyed the industry in Glasgow if you are typical of them.

The bosses always lie, no-one can be trusted, etc. etc. means you end up an embittered stupid old man, well, you have succeeded in that.

So a guy trying to protect his investment through a private contract signed in good faith by two consenting adults must be in opposition to the gov't because he priced it in a stable currency?

You are a paranoid buffoon maybe you are Argentinians after all.

There is actually a glut of apartments in Argentina, especially BsAs. u$700 is very steep for a rental there.

When I moved to BA I was suckered, my rent was U$1600 for a furnished flat in a nice part of town. I thought it was cheap compared to what I paid in the USA.
After 6 months when I realized how desperate everyone was I offered U$800/mo for the rest of the year in a lump sum. Then I did the same thing for the following year at U$650. This was a 370sqm whole floor flat with amazing views! I think they'd be very happy to have me renting there again. I have seen the apt advertised for years!

    You (quite rightly) say….:
”…..the fish rots from the head, and Cristina's crackdown on the feral rich is the best chance Argentina has for a less corrupt culture in the longterm imho…”

Permit me to add a few words….:
….Cristina's crackdown on the feral rich old-timers, the depraved military old-timers, the irrational Church old-timers and the obscene Judiciary old-timers…. is the best chance Argentina has for a less corrupt culture in the longterm imho…

Good advice on negotiating my Argentine's rent, you guys

@Poppy He was making $700 a month from his public service job, not paying that in rent. I was trying to keep details to a minimum, because he reads English and knows I like to comment.
He is not experiencing happiness, let's say, and he may not want others to read that :/

You know what British Kirchner & think. Punishing bad people doesn't make good people. Because we're all a mix. The best way to help people have good fiscal health is to be an example of good long-term fiscal health for you and yours.

If there was instability, how could he get to Brazil?????????????????????

As of three months ago, you cannot legally get more than $70 out of the country for a couple weeks. One of his dreams was Unasur, where you were free to move around.

Well, it's time for him to come here! :)

Corruption is widely considered something engrained in Argentina – there have been precious few top-level convictions, and there is a sense that public officials are untouchable. According to one poll 70 per cent of respondents believed the allegations but only 14 per cent considered convictions would follow.
The sense of official impunity – at a time when the government is pushing through judicial reforms that it says will “democratise” the system – was one of the major complaints at nationwide demonstrations on April 18. The protests saw tens of thousands of pot-banging citizens, gathered by social media rather than a party or leader, coming out in Argentina’s major cities to express their anger against the government.
As far as corruption is concerned, it seems not a day goes by at the moment without some new allegation or incident.

Sounds like CFK is effectively cleaning house of all rival cadres before the election, and consolidating her re-re-election tools, a submissive Judiciary, and a suppressed media.

Ayayay ....legal immigration is tough in the USA. I am still working getting my wifes family here. I hope it works out for you.

Kirchner's popularity is half what it was when she was elected......amazing that anyone supports or believes anything she says.

    Thanks Cap'n.
I was going to ask you for anecdotes.
I am going to marry him. Yet I must raise my lightly-financed self's income to be able to qualify him on a fiance visa. I do have an asset too, and I know I can do it.
Going to be SO GREAT when he sees how peaceful. honest and F R I E N D L Y coastal America is. How the poor don't work giving out squares of toilet in the bathroom, smelling butt slime. When he sees people smiling in the street. The fun places, Hollywood, hostels, Disneyland, all the flowers-I want to see the look on his face.

I assume you are female? The reason I say that is while more and more states now accept same sex marriage, the federal government does not, so a K visa would not work. Realize also that a K visa can take two years to issue. typically 15 to 18 months. Tourist visa is 6 months.....marry two months into that and apply for a status change....takes 4 0r 5 months and he may have to leave because 6 months might pass before the status is changed. US immigration is tough these days.....legally anyway. My family came from Russia a hundred years ago, if these laws were in place then......I would be pitching hay and bitching about Vladamir Putin.

#176 And I'll add, thats why I want to see her re-elected, or someone of the same ilk like Timmerman elected with her support, rather than a nominal party colleague like Sciloi who represents the interests of these old timers getting in and undoing all her good work...

#180 Impunity eh? Compare the fates of Videla et all and Tony Bliar =(
