    With all that oil potential and wealth, Venezuela has been forced to now looking at selling the proverbial or perhaps not so proverbial farm.

    '”for us and for the majority of Latam this is very good news”, said the Venezuelan official.'

    It's nice to know that the peoples of the Americas view the selling off of their lands to the Chinese is, in some way, good news.

    Or, just maybe, the Chinese don't really want to own the land of the Americas, just show all Americans how best to use their lands.

    Yes, they can show the South American's how to use their land as the environmental way the chinese use's their own land.

    @4 I'm assuming your post is sarcastic... I was thinking the same thing. Let the Chinese get in there and the Venezuelan environment will be decimated. But hey, “this is very good news”.

    I also find it amusing that the clowns in the Venezuelan government can't answer any questions or just make statements about any topics without bringing up “imperialism” of the United States of America. When they cling to things like that trying to form disjointed arguments, you know they're hurtin for certain.

    Well, sorry to piss on your chips as they say in Liverpool (the nearest thing that the UK has to The Dark Country) but the Chin are very good at promoting themselves to the detriment of the rest of the world and still consider them to be the Middle Kingdom as far as the controlling elite are concerned.

    This means the rest of us are less than them by a long way indeed. They are also in the middle of an extreme credit crunch and have panicked themselves into letting some of the banks set their own interest rates. This is going to be ‘interesting’ to say the least and may see unnecessary competition between banks to get the same customers!

    But Venezuela would probably be much better off if the Chin took the country over; lock, stock and both barrels. Crime would be cut overnight by executing anybody committing serious crimes, so the army would have to look out as well.

    I really hope this happens within my lifetime.

    @8 ChrisR,
    Executing people committing serious crimes is no bad thing.
    Just so long as you get the right perpetrator.
    That would be my only concern.

    Yes, I agree but the Chin are not too fussed as long as 'it looks right' from what I have seen of things on YouTube.

    If the Chin managed to severely reduce the murder rates from the highest in SA it would be far more effective for the people than any short term damage they could do to the environment.

    That's true.....I was amazed that for gun crazed Americans that we (collectively) are, Venezuela has us beat for 10% the size and Brazil's trend should be disturbing for them.
