I love the comment under her picture 'displayed her talent the C24', well come on, a powerful speech based on seeing birds flying out and back to the islands.. so they must be argentine! What clap trap, she's better off stirring a cauldron and reading the underlying meaning in underpants skid marks than extolling the non-existent virtues of argentina's pointless trouble-mongering over the falklands. She can sacrifice Tim-man too, who's only value is to show that more than one politician is a complete numpty in that neck of the woods.

And, of course, la Kretina will, again, be making an enormous fool of herself when she appears - she is only using the occasion as an excuse to go shopping in NYC!

As there have recently been Chilean Flamingos in the Falklands I take it that Chile now has a claim on the Islands. However as House Sparrows came from the UK, it too has a claim.

As the resident Peregrine Falcon is practically worldwide-the whole world may claim the Islands (including the UK).

    @6
Yes this is going to be funny, but her 'talents' at speeches resemble a drunk-she talks too quickly-no measured, delivered speech.

But yes, the best stand up comedy anywhere, something Argentina is a world leader in.

“At 5:00 in the afternoon President Cristina Fernandez will be visiting the UN chief”.

What's the betting 'the chief' suddenly 'have a dental appointment ' he forgot?

And what's the betting the pope has texted him, replied by 'Yes, I already know what she's like and what she's going to ask for?'

“It would not come as a surprise that Cristina Fernandez takes the opportunity to bash the UK over the Falklands/Malvinas sovereignty dispute and ‘militarization of the South Atlantic”’.

Especially as HMS Argyll and the paras have recently invaded the Falklands.

It's not clear to me why the President of Argentina herself is addressing a rather routine meeting of the security council. Doesn't Argentina have a team of professional dipomats like most normal countries? Doesn't the Argentine President have more important things to be doing? Can you imagine President Obama, or Prime Minister David Cameron, or Chancellor Angela Merkel wasteing their time with speeches at the UN. Would President Putin or President François Hollande take time out from governinhg thier respective countries to give a talk on regional organisations and the UN?

It does seem to me that President Kirchner lacks a mature perspective on things. She lacks a sense of proportion. She even attends annual meetings of the C24 for heavens sake. A meeting which is of such monumental irrelevance it's not even reported in the British media.

Britian, like most mature countries, is represented at the UN by a professional career diplomat: His Excellency Sir Mark Lyall Grant
KCMG. He brings a dignity and professionalism that Argentina can only dream of.

I have spent time in Argentina and had lots of contact over many years with Argentinians. I love them. For the life of me I can't understand why they insist upon lurching from one extreme to the other and living out an endless cycle of grand delusions. They are a wonderful people caught in a perpetual and self inflicted Twilight Zone. I have to laugh out loud each time I see her. She reminds me of that wildly erratic queen in Alice in Wonderland. She is such a farce.

!4 Geoff she was an embarrassment to herself at Harvard.
The problem is that the people in Argentina are so desperate for someone new they pin their hope on the first one that seems different. Like many political systems in the world, in order to succeed you have to be in the “in crowd” and no one know that until they are elected in. The problem with Argentina's 'in crowd” is that it is filled with Peronists and worse, kirchnerite's. I think these coming elections, kirchnerite's may very well be marginalized, unless they can really alter the outcomes. But the act remains that peronists will still remain.

Unfortunately, she looks so old because she wears make-up suitable for a young lady and clothes that are more suitable for her daughter. The result is she looks like a man in drag. Doesn't she has a best friend to take her to one side and mention 'mutton dressed as lamb'? If she dressed age appropriate she would actually look much younger.

Of course, that has nothing to do with whether or not she has the ability to run a country. We all know the answer to that one.

Brazileiro @17. You are thoughtful and understanding in your remarks. I sense that you strive for a balance in all things intellectual; preferring dialogue to semantics. I must confess that I indulge myself here by blowing off steam as it were. My willingness to go a bit berserk on these boards stems from the fact that there are so few such soap boxes like this one. By that I mean where those who are from, or quite comfortable in the Anglo-sphere but having more than a casual knowledge of affairs in Latin America can “congregate” as it were. I have a sneaking hunch others here will agree but speaking for myself I find the intellectual firmament in many Latin countries to be repressive and heavily larded with left-leaning clap trap. I do find several columnists including Joaquin Morales Sola' at La Nacion to be of the very first rank; inspiring actually. But they are brave souls because they have persevered under great pressure and intimidation. The government actively seeks to restrict them. Well, it can't restrict us here. So were thumbing our collective nose. Please be patient with my generous tongue lashings of CFK.

#15 darragh, yes that very same “off with their heads” capriciousness.
#16 Captain Poppy, At Harvard she showed why she should have been shopping on 5th Ave. instead. She made a disparaging remark about a university in Argentina, implying that it was much inferior to Harvard, that stuck to her like glue for many days.

#34 It is very difficult to be nice to someone who tried to steal your car, and who is trying to steal it again saying that it is theirs because you stole it 180 years ago. This person also tells the whole world that you are a thief and calls you an oppressive colonist. What's more this person also blockades your house. British people and Falkland Islanders have a huge sense of right and wrong and react to bullying with anger and resolve.
That is why we treat Argentinians like we do, its just a reaction. If Argentina just left the little Island community in peace there would be friendship.

@21 That was quite funny. “I speak the same language of peace.” Sorry, I hadn't noticed.
@31 Please. “Tolerance, education, joint-ventures” Let's see, the Falklands tolerates argieland. Argieland uses lies instead of “education”. And then we get to the big one. “joint-ventures”. There used to be some. Until the argies realised they weren't going to get sovereignty that way. Then they threw their dollies out of their prams and tore the agreements up. And now argieland wages constant economic warfare against the Islanders. Perhaps if argies changed their ways, and paid their debts, and proved their honesty over, say, 50 to 100 years, the Falklanders might consider the odd joint-venture.
@36 Total rubbish. Did you go to “school” in argieland. Tell us about these mutual aggressions.

#75@Think. I Think I'm dizzy for all the non-sequiturs here from the saboteur provocateur. Understanding linguistic barriers to effective communication is my strong suit but language is no barrier to logic. I think we're dealing with a situation where someone has defied doctor's orders and tossed the meds.

Scottish Uruguayans! Loverly. I knew about Argie Scotts but this is 2 kool 4 skool. I've been missing out on all the fun.

All this roiling upset ought to be balanced a bit by the military perspective. The CFK regime is commanding a force that is not able to project itself into the South Atlantic. The U.K. has just taken the wraps off a brand new class of submarines that are certain to see duty in that area. If BsAs couldn't reach down that far last week it'll be even less able to do so in the future. This is all part of the demagogic dog and pony show that will receive thunderous applause in places like the U.N. and of course Jose Mujica's recently re-affirmed eternal role model Cuba. At least he sees CFK for what she is. But there ain't a darn thing she can actually do except to strut and fret her pitiful hour upon the stage. Politics for all and football for all! National dignity. Amazingly pathetic ginning up of emotions as though Argentina were ever short on that. Trust me on this one, loads of Argies know exactly what she is up to and are saying so. A lot of them are exceptionally well informed and astute.

A probe into assets declared in his tax return

The charges were filed against General Cesar Milani on Monday after Milano registered in declaration in 2013 to have paid 1.5 million pesos (USD 273,00) for his 1,500-square-meter house near Buenos Aires.
Federal Prosecutor Jorge Di Lello says Milano could not afford such as house, as reports say Milani had a monthly salary of 15,000 pesos (USD 2,700).
Di Lello also said Milani had failed to declare the purchase of a Honda Fit in 2012 and of an Alfa Romeo Mito in 2011.
Meanwhile, the country’s opposition has demanded Milani to step down over his involvement during the country’s 1976-83 military dictatorship.
There have been allegations linking Milani to the disappearance of a soldier in 1976 and the kidnapping of a political activist a year later.
He is also accused of practicing violence and torture during the so-called Dirty War in which 30,000 people were killed, according to rights groups.

Argentina ranks 105th out of 178 countries in the 2010 Transparency International Corruption Perception Index (it is on the same level as Algeria, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Senegal).
In the World Justice Project's 2010 Rule of Law index (which only includes 35 countries) rates Argentina 20th out of these 35 countries for the indicator Absence of Corruption, 29th for Open Government, 28th for Regulatory Enforcement, 20th for Access to Civil Justice and 28th for Effective Criminal Justice (out of 10 indicators I though these were the ones most directly related to corruption).
It is reasonable safe to say that Argentina has widespread, rampant corruption. We shall see it in full glory this election season.

The British have allways been against poor Argentina, they even finanaced their Independence! Or do you think that San Martin and most of the experienced top officers appeared out of the blue? They were contracted and paid for by Britain. The same occured with the military supplies.

After Independence, the built most of the country's railways, ports, factories and set-up the, at that time, cutting edge public services.

Argentina beneffited greatly from its association with Britain. Later, the RGS screwed up so bad, they had no better idea than to blame the Brits for their mistakes. And that happened before Peron!

No balance in the “Military Perspective” of the “Malvinas Issue”, Mr. Nolan........ No balance at all….
    Not in 1833...
    Not in 1982......
    Not in 2013.........

I don't know if you have noticed but this Angelsächsische obsession of “Projecting Power by Military Means” has not worked properly in the last ~sixty years…(Suez, Viet-Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan come to mind)...

I don't know if you noticed but we Argentineans are fighting Geopolitical Piracy and warmongering by diplomatic and economic means nowadays….

It’s just a question of time for us….
    And time is cheap….

    Ps…:
At the end of your post you write something about “trusting your opinion about Argentina and Argentineans”….

    98. By your own words you convict your own position
“Why on Earth should I Trust your opinion when it seems to be just a replication of old uniformed cliches platitudes and commonplaces, ” from the propaganda of a failing state. I would expect your rhetoric from a child/teenager but some one who is educated will always look at both sides of an argument not accepting any one source as the only true opinion balancing all the evidence and at that point recognise everybody's hands are bloody by the nature of our feudal history but Nations have grown up and people's will not accept bullying because it is against their opinion of the selves as a peaceful progressive state that's why we hear so many states saying dialogue very few actually saying the people of the Falklands have no rights of self determination. I have no time for the flag wavers they are always their to provoke conflict but no where e to be seen or way back when push comes to shove the worst kind of cowards expecting others to she'd their blood to make them feel important .....I hope you are a troll and not a genuine person
That's me out of here I wanted to find out what the real story was re the Falklands and have looked at all sides without pre judging but after a few months research I am left with one final thing to say The very best of luck to the Falklands people and all who defend your rights

You forgot 1832, when the dispute with Argentina (or whatever it was called at the time) over the Falklands, actually began.

If you know what happened in 1832 that is.

“Projecting Power by Military Means”, does seem to be working in this case.

With territories and populations running all the way down the S. Atlantic to the Antarctic, the British are the main S. Atlantic country. As well as being the main military power in the region.

Argentina on the other hand is a S. American country who’s Navy doesn’t really have a blue water capability.

Paraguay are as much a S. Atlantic nation as Argentina.

    Antarctica next.

As for exactly who, or what, it is you are actually fighting for, or against, I admit is a mystery to me, and I suspect to you as well.

But keep fighting anyway, at least it looks like you’re doing something.

So many of you experts at fuming with rage as if that alone could confer the moral and intellectual high ground on your point of view. Argentina is the cause of Argentina's difficulties. Britain is merely a little side show that allows CFK to do the classic and time honored demagogic trick of blaming the foreigner. The problems and solutions are in Argentina by and for Argentina. When you focus on the trees you fail to see the forest. Vietnam was nothing but a battle in the bigger war ....called the cold war. When they pulled out that last chair in the game of musical chairs........perhaps you are not aware that the USA was sitting in it and not the USSR.
Iraq and Afghanistan is also a bigger war with your brothers and allies, the Islamic extremist. However I do not expect this one to last as long as the cold war.

I do agree with you that time is cheap, but Argentina and most of SA has been riding the time train for over 200 years searching for their identity and to become a developed economy, will it be another 200 years in the waiting because afterall, that is all your countries can afford to buy is time.

As sure as kirchner will continue to rob the country or Argentina, the Falklands will never see Argentina control them.

This link states that Merco Press is an organization with offices in the Falklands but the headlines often say dateline Montevideo. Before I ever began posting here I'd read the articles and often got the feeling that English was not the first language of the author. One article for example referred to (very similar if not exactly) Brazil placing limits on Argentine produce. From the context it was obvious that they were discussing manufactured products This term “produce” is commonly used to describe vegetables, not manufactured goods. That's the reason I'm asking this question. I'm just curious. There is evidence of strong association with the Falklands and English speakers but there are also signs of some lack of total dominion of English. Politics and who pays for it aside, it's interesting. Could they be Scottish by blood but Uruguayan by birth and have grown up in an environment not thoroughly English speaking?

Briton maybe that poster was correct when it posted that the ultimate goal of Argentina is to attempt an attack on the Falklands again. Not that they can succeed at it, but it seems they want to. Is it such a coincidence that the 5 most war mongering nations in the second half of the 20th century are all permanent members of the SecCo? (China

Japan, Germany, and Italy have been amongst the most peaceful nations on Earth in that time (Chinese civil war, Korean war, Algerian War, Vietnam, Russian Afghanistan, Iraq, Afghanistan again)...

Sadly it will take London, Paris, New York, Moscow, and Beijing to be reduced to rubble for these countries to learn, because they still are the ones involved in the most wars and in getting involved in other people's business (look at UK/France vis-a-vis Syria, Germany and Italy know much better).

Eventually, they will pick up the wrong fight. When their capitals are ash, then they will hopefully become peaceful, positive influences in the world.

Yes it does, all empires have to end, the main item that helps us define whether they were good or not is how they end. Is it better for your empire to go up in flames and leave your home nation in ruin as you desperately try to fight to keep your empire together (Spain, Persia, Rome etc, etc.) Or is it better to end it all peacefully through self determination? I'm glad that Britannia peacefully dismantled her empire rather than fighting costly and bloody wars in a hopeless effort to hold on to the idea of empire, France tried this in Algeria and Vietnam, two of her most important colonies and it all ended in tears. Britain set India away without firing a shot and now the to countries remain close and friendly, compare this to France and Algeria for example were relations are still strained to this day.

I can still love both ideas while wanting the former to return, but it won't, sadly. I'am glad it end peacefully in the end. Well if you call the conquest of the desert and the general imperial expansion southwards in the 1800s, along with the current Human rights issues positive then sure its been great. I said good night didn't I? Pure Indians? No such thing, everyone on earth is intermingled. You just proved my point about inter warfare, these tribes were either wiped out or spread apart and forced into Argentinas population. I don't know what point you're trying to make, I just pointed out that Britain and the other European nations couldn't possibly completely stop the tribal warfare after we left because we didn't replace the culture and identity of the Africans were as in Argentina the relatively small and strung out population of natives was completely “freight trained” (Sideswiped basically) by the invading and predominately Latino population of migrants.

“nothing redeemable of the British Empire because it denied people self-determination” Obviously not or 50 or so countries wouldn't exist today would they? Argentina didn't give the natives self did they?

“England killed millions more in Empire than Argentina in the conquest of Patagonia, it's that simple.” Was I arguing that point by mentioning the conquest of the desert? No Anyway as sad as it is to say empire is the price of civilisation. If it wasn't for the Roman empire killing tens of millions, most of Europe wouldn't even have city wide plumbing. I could go on, but I'm tired TTT, I'm sure we will chat in the morning. Good night.

If you were a smart Yank (Oxymoron) you could have used the figures, mileages and times and figured exactly where I was and seen how many towns I don't need to pass through and how many huge open stretches that I clock the miles......but alas, you are not!
......and you must drive like an old woman or a fanny!.......and that doesn't mean butt!
.......can you imagine if you could afford the fine and never get points on your licence would you worry about speeding?
......I always keep under 30mph over the limit.......big trouble if you don't. So your 110 mph is nonsense!.......95 tops!

Is there a degree program for waiters in Argentina? It seems like a life long career with all the nasty old waiters in the coffee shops/restuarants in BA.

We don't really have that here since we actually have opportunity.

Yankee you're getting pulled into his cesspool. Anyone that drives in the northeast knows the limits of speeding is 75 and you will get pulled over and ticketed. If you are out of state, pulled to the magistrate to pay the fine.....period. A-voice from mendoza has never been to the USA and he is glad and we are happy as well. He does not say his nationality because he is ashamed.....can you blame him? The only reason he refuses to email me is I can trace him and that would give his location away.....in mendoza. Did she reward you for your specialness and you rewarded her by being special. Did you then retreat into fantasy and instead of a childhood, you developed adult interests and obsessions.

The roof usually has wooden paneling instead of sheetrock for a warmer feel and the outside in the Northern US has siding attached so looks like all the rest and fits in!

As for myself I could care less where he lives - if he claimed to live in Adelaide I might find it amusing to prove otherwise.

I would on the other hand LOVE to know WHO he is - it would be like
    unmasking The Stig.

I am somewhat surprised that you think a couple of Dumb Yanks have proved anything.

All I meant was that he has the same agenda.
Yes, he has a detailed knowledge of the upper Clyde area.
Whether that is because he was brought up here or acquired the knowledge through other sources. I don;t know.
How about this for a wild scenario, son of an American sailor based at the Holy Loch. Sailor returns to the USA after his tour of duty, son stays with his mother and is educated locally.
Son travels between USA and UK with a foot in both camps.
Seems not to be particularly patriotic about the UK.
His disdain for British troops suffering from PTSD and saying that they asked for it by joining the Army would be at complete variance with the feelings of the UK population as a whole.
That is the one remark he has made that makes us doubt that he is “one of us” He always dodges direct questions about his background as BK did. A simple thing such as where borne, school etc would maybe give some credence.
No doubt a tirade will descend on my head but until he proves otherwise, there will always be a doubt.

All those “ladies” that used to travel from Greenock....to “entertain” the Yanks in the Holy Loch and all the locals doing the same.....plenty of sons and daughters about.
A lot of those ladies......went over to the States thinking it was the land of milk and honey......to find they'd married trailer trash as most of the Yankee navy were.
I've heard lots of stories......stuck in the middle of nowhere....no friends....no transport....Miles to the nearest Walmart! Trailer park or slums.....Lots came back......I'm sure you heard the same thing.

You missed the point again. You keep telling me that you are testing me - without ever saying why or giving anything in return. I have been totally honest in all the details I have given about myself whereas you hide in the shadows. What is your problem ? If I knew a little about you then I MAY take you seriously and reply accordingly.

The above was me testing YOU. The expression I used is not widely known outside of Scotland and especially Ulster. In your reply you indicated that you knew what it meant.
I have absolutely no interest whether you are an RC, Proddie, Muslim , Hindu or atheist but you picked up the ball and ran with it. You ascribed to me motives that were not there.
Another useless piece of info. about me, I was expelled from the Church of Scotland Sunday School at age 8 for querying some of the teachings and being a disruptive influence on the rest of the class. My best pal was a Catholic and my parents would have nothing to do with sectarianism.
Also, in my scenario, I was not suggesting anything other than your parents were married.

    @ 303 Anglotino:

You are a young gay man still struggling to emerge from the closet. The same barely repressed rage and hysteria in Alan Jones speech is replicated in your comments. It emerges as smugness. Jones was fond of rugby locker rooms - you are reduced to perving at Jobe's thighs no doubt.

You don't have the courage of your convictions. I've read many a virulently anti-gay comment in these threads and I've yet to witness any attempt on your part to confront them. Just don't have the balls do you? I'm guessing like most bullies you are no stranger to abuse, but that doesn't give you a free pass. You're still responsible for your behaviour.

I've never pretended to be anyone other than whom I say I am - you on other hand fake it all the time don't you? Still trying to fool the straight world. Everything you write sounds contrived - there's no passion or real belief - and your attempts at machismo are laughable.

Every time you point the finger there are three fingers pointing right back at you. Didn't you know that?

Come on tobi....the only one's that post anti-gay remarks are the macho latinos. I hardly see Anglotino struggling to come out of the closet. His first post he stated he was gay and for most civilized people that is not a concern aside from the fact that gay's struggle against discrimination. Now go back to you self grandiose delusions of intelligence. Get a new IP as well.

This is a very very strange post.
You should see a psychiatrist and bring him that post
I imagine it is self directed and not really for Anglotino

Methinks You should take your own advice.

How preposterous. Here you are stating that posters MUST respond to personal attacks, as though they are obligated to justify their personal lifestyles or beliefs because you choose to air your prejudices or bigotry.

Anglotino has never made sexual preference an issue on here, not has he criticised anyone else's sexual preference or personal lifestyle choices, yet people like you use them as personal insults and provocation.

It just reveals your own backwards prejudices, intolerance, and underlying hatred.

Gosh, you don't sound very objective, fair-minded, educated, or typically Australian, for that matter.

You just can't help yourself, can you?

Army? Heisentobi....where does the Army come in here. And tit's is not a bad thing to be obsessed with unless you milk them from your momma tobi boi.
You really need a different IP with each ID........tell momma cocoa butter is great for her nipples as your sucking them dry is ruining them.

Yankee they should be some dancing in the streets Sunday when they protest with their votes as Simon68 said. I hate the fact that I am taking pleasure in the misery in Argentina. However, the good is that maybe the people will learn this time around. I am really wishing for a painfully, misery death for the Great Cunt of Argentina. Did you manage to find what airline she rented for her NYC trip?

If you're so bored, go help in Rosario, they're still missing 11 people I think.
I hear this was caused by lack of infrastructure spending or was it the part they needed is still in customs? No, its infrastructure spending, it took them 20 minutes and digging in various parts of the street to get the gas shut off.
I guess that is what happens when you freeze the gas prices for over a decade.
You're lucky the system is holding up as well as it is
I doubt for very much longer tho
    BA sewers are collapsing to
so that is not just water in the streets when it rains

Still feeling special with all this attention.

Seems Heisenbergcontext stayed up all night to be bored on Mercopress but the again considering his confusion over time zone it is surprising.

But I will admit I am surprised by how quickly the façade dropped. Seems his second coming on this site involving as much fence sitting as possible has worked as well as his first appearance sitting on Think's lap.

As much as I enjoy this it's a beautiful winters day here and I'm off to sketch in Flagstaff Gardens.
