Bolivian president Evo Morales claimed that the Pacific Alliance (Colombia, Chile, Peru and Mexico) is part of a major conspiration plotted “from the north” and directed to divide the Union of South American Nations, Unasur.

“I want to tell you that the US is trying to split Unasur. The countries of the Pacific alliance are part of a major conspiration coming from the north to divide us, so that Unasur can’t advance towards the definitive liberation of our peoples”, said Morales during a media conference in La Paz.

According to Bolivia’s first indigenous president, last August in Suriname, Unasur tried to agree on a new Secretary General, there was “an internal position” which prevented from achieving the nomination.

“It was a clear example of a well designed and better defined policies so that Unasur does not advance quicker”, said Morales. Unasur is made up of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay, Guyana, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The election of a successor for Venezuela’s Ali Rodríguez as Secretary General of Unasur should have taken place last August, but finally there was no agreement. Morales has been insisting on the need to chose as soon as possible a new Unasur secretary general and has been talking with Nicolas Maduro from Venezuela and Rafael Correa from Ecuador.

Correa was in Bolivia two weeks ago and stated that the Pacific Alliance “does not conceive integration as creating a great society of citizens, but simply creating a large market, a large market of consumers”.

Morales, Maduro and Correa are members of the Bolivarian Alliance of the Americas, ALBA, next to Cuba, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica and Saint Vincent and Grenadines.

First off, who exactly is UNASUR liberating?

    And from whom?

Secondly, Peru, Chile and Colombia are equals within UNASUR and only constitute 1/4 of its membership. So how are they controlling the 9 other members?

Mercosur will soon constitute half of UNASUR's members when Bolivia joins. And if you include Ecuador clearly constitutes a majority.

Maduro has already invited Trinidad and Tabago to join.

Out of Mercosur, UNASUR, ALBA, CAN and the Pacific Alliance; only one group is making major advances and strides towards integration.

A hint..... it isn't Mercosur, UNASUR, ALBA or CAN!
