Uruguay's meat exports slid 6.5% in volume during 2013 compared to the previous year, but the big news is that China has become the main client for beef, followed by Nafta countries, (US, Canada and Mexico), according to the latest release from the country's National Meat Institute, INAC. With any luck, the EU will become the major meat trading partner soon.

That's not an issue, as in order for the EU to become no 1 meat importer from Uruguay, China has to import less. The reason is simple, in order to provide those two monsters with meat, we would need to produce little else than meat...

The real problem here is how we create a market for Uruguayan meat here in Uruguay, as it's nearly impossible to get your hands on the good cuts, everything being exported...

Stevie, I have expressed my objections many times on these threads to monocultures
Beef is only one of our exports. Its right we are not putting all our own eggs in one basket, wheat, soya and cellulose amongst other.
All these exports are not to Mercosur, which pretty much a dead letter
If you cant buy the best beef cuts of Uruguayan beef in Dunoon its our fault
Or do you really live in a cantegril in ROU where to carnicerias dont stock the top cuts because its beyond the purchasing power of the local barrio inhabitants?
On another theme, perhaps you dont read what is going on in the city of Juan Lacaze?
    Wise up young man
These industries are being strangled by Argentine regs which will put an estimated 500 people out of work
    Happy? I am not

Try buying lomo from any carniceria.
Now, there are 2 possibilities. Either the cow was the size of an elephant, or it just isn't lomo...

I never had problems getting good beef in Uruguay. In fact last time I was there it was much better than the un-edible expensive shoe I got in Argentina.
