Oh Dilma, when will you sack The Liar Mantega, he will be your nemesis?

“Guido Mantega's Finance ministry stands to its 2.3% to 2.5% forecast.” Whatever.

“The UN Conference on Trade and Development, UNCTAD, estimates that Latin America's largest economy will be expanding 1.8% this year,” In your dreams.

The way things are shaping up in Brazil with all the attempts to hand-tie Mr. Market they will be lucky to break through 1% IMO.

Mr. Market (the actions of the citizens in buying what they need / want) always tells the truth even when the government lies through its’ teeth.

I suppose “the poor” will love her and her Bolsa Familia handouts, no jobs though!

Dilma may be not as stupid to realize that the WC is a total waste of money and effort when there seems to be so many other things to improve.

In her defense the FIFA decided that the 2014 WC must be played in South America and Lula presented the candidacy of Brazil. She simply inherited this mess and has to live up to it.

As the economy winds down she is going to have a very hard time keeping up the bribes to the poor.
It is also almost impossible to “stimulate” an economy without increasing inflation.
My guess is they'll keep depreciating and not worry about inflation until it gets away from them.
    Just like they always have

She needs to nut up and hand FIFA a big fat bill for the stadiums.
Why should they come into town and expect everyone to bow to their demands.
I can see some games getting suspended due to riots in the streets.

Not that I think Dilma is any better than Lula, but she may be a little less worse....the fact is that she inherited an economy already heading for the sewer after 8 years of Lula; if she had had the guts to distance herself from Lula's policies , and from the idiot himself, she might have performed better. And keeping the ever-incompetent and liar Mantega as Finance Minister, is not helping.
As to the possibility of some games being postponed due to rioting, would not rule it out....to see them try to control the protestors without having the police smash their skulls in, is going to be another spectacle, interesting to see....on TV.

Some of you may be puzzled by the sense self absorption and detachment that the Brazilian right wing extremist commentators to this site present. Indeed a few have doubted that they are Brazilian nationals.

On cue an article appears that explains that they are nominally Brazilians but in other senses they are not:
