BBC2 To Gear claims “they threw us out of Argentina for the political capital”

BBC2’s Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has said his crew did nothing wrong and affirmed “someone could have been killed”, following incidents in which a group of people in Tierra del Fuego threw stones at their cars, thinking the license plates they used for filming were directly alluding to the Falklands/Malvinas War. LOL!
Argentina - “We are peaceful, and we have the torches and pitchforks to prove it!”

Still I suppose it is possible that TG was innocent, is they wanted to make waves they would not be so subtle as just using three obscure license plates.

(Quote) “ Top Gear has also featured its fair share of controversy since the show’s debut in 1977 ”

Top Gear in the 70's and 80's was about as controversial as warm tea .
    An episode from 1983 :

Oh shit , have just realised , 1983 is very similar to 1982 , I hope this doesn't cause offence to some 20 yr old “ war veteran ” !

Whether it was totally orchestrated, totally innocent or somewhere in between, there is something you can be sure of. It will go to air, it will be a ratings winner, it will make Clarkson richer than he already is and Argentina will come out of it looking bad.

This could be the start of a whole new series,
with Clarkson going to the States driving a teabag, across China on a pair of chopsticks, the Russia wearing Trident teashirts, to Germany blaring 'the 633 Squadron' ... oh, the list just goes on and on!
But in the end everybody ends up a parody of their former self, and viewers just get embarrassed.

In all 170 countries where it's broadcast.

Someone in Argentina should have done their homework, or maybe they did and genuinely believe, “The world is on our side.”

Even if 10% support their actions that's still 153 countries that are going to form a poor opinion of them. That's 153 sources of tourists and what do tourists bring? DOLLARS And what do dollars bring? JOBS!!!!!!

Well done Argentina, clever, very clever.

Clarkson is renowned for p!ssing people off. That is why do many people like him.

So all in all he'll still be going strong and well remembered long after Argentina has disappeared up its own hoop.

All those people in all of those countries, we could be talking about billions of people here, and all of them get to see the true face of Argentina. A fascist, lawless place, with government sponsored thuggery.

That'll sure bring in the tourists and their dollars...not.

Face it, you guys started a war. You then lost the war and were completely humiliated on the international stage. It's time to grow up and get over it.

But you can't because the memory of your humiliation burns deep, and you keep reliving it over and over and over. And until you learn to heal the wounds you'll always be a backwards country, with a backwards looking mentality, and continue to regress towards oblivion.

Also for future reference - you can't use any plates between 833-999 and 000-014 as these might refer to any of the years in which the Falklands have been lived on by the bad old Brits. In fact, I'd give all the other numbers a miss in case they remind the Argentinians that didn't have sovereignty any of those years either.

Just trying to think of all the countries Top Gear has visited in their 139 episodes to date. The answer is lots, and, they have upset quite a few countries along the way. But this whole thing has been engineered by the RGs for sure. Thats the trouble of saying it how it is. It certainly energised all Gollums trolls and syncophants. The RG government never misses a chance for yet another big of whingeing.

@20. Poor child. You really don't understand very much, do you? Brits frequently make jokes about each other. It's laughed off. But then we've had 2,000 years. Which should give a fair idea of 'the answer'. People who whinge about “provocations and racist insults” are basically inadequate. Look at a simple example. Argieland is constantly provoking the Falkland Islands and the United Kingdom. In various ways, numbers of argies constantly use racist insults against Falkland Islanders and Britons. For instance, it is common courtesy to call countries, cities and towns by the name bestowed by the inhabitants. Therefore, every time some argie calls the Falkland Islands by that 'Malvinas' name, it's a provocation. When 'Think' refers to the 'English' instead of the British, it's a provocative and racist insult. Why don't you criticise that?
@22. How erudite. But, as others have said, how nice that millions of people all around the world will be able to see how argie behaviour matches CFK's words. Let's see now, 32 years since a war that argieland started and lost. And how were Brits and Germans getting on in 1977? I think argieland's chances of the UK sitting down to negotiate anything are well into the minus numbers. Maybe someone will decide to drop paving slabs on Alicia's transport!

And please don't tell me that the number plate was coincidental, don't be so naïve. Yes they started it, yes some people cheered for it but remember, people died. Has anyone on this board had a relative who died of lung cancer and smoked? If so, I find that fcuking hilarious.

    This is perfect....

Jeremy Clarkson and Top Gear are world famous, they have a massive world-wide audience. This is a fantastic opportunity.

Apparently, Clarksons crew had their lives threatened because of the malvinas myth. The lies that certain Argentine cretins have had bottled fed for generations.

What a wonderful opportunity for the BBC to sanction a documentry, presented by Clarkson, May and Hammond...

    Falklands...THE TRUTH

    Part 1: Inheritance...

Argentine lie: The islands were inherited from Spain

Truth: Not one single Spaniard who ever lived on the islands became Argentine, in fact they fought Argentina, and had left the islands under orders from Spain years before Argentina existed.

    Part 2: Usurption

Argentine lie: The islands were usurped and an Argentine population/authority was eviced in 1833

The British claim predates back to 1690 and the only Argentines ever evicted were the crew of the Sarandi whod been on the islands for 6 weeks and had already murdered their Captain and raped his wife.

    Part 3: Geography

Argentine Lie: The islands are part of Patagonia and therefore constitue a disruption of Argentinas territorial integrity.

Truth: Patagonia only became part of Argentina in 1880 due to Argentinas own colonial genocidal expansionism.

If this was presented in the correct way, it could accurately depict Argentinas govenment as lying, corrupt morons, deceiving their own people for political capital...and would be hilarious...FUCKING HILARIOUS.

I may write to mr Clarkson with my suggestion..LOL

Wouldn't be surprised if Top Gear does a trip to the Falklands to bridge the rest of the episode, or a future one, probably with Union Jack painted cars.

The Argentinian government aren't used to the power of a free press with a global audience, and Top gear have a massive microphone to wave around. Add in that scandal helps with the ratings, especially where the scandal isn't seen as their fault, and they have every reason to use it.

jeremy clarkson and his followers fled, escorted and PROTECTED by the Tierra del Fuego police to the border and into chile.
The action of our citizens y veteranos de Malvinas was so successful that Clarkson and his followers had to quickly abandon their cars in Tolhuin (IMAGINE YOU, THESE CARS ARE NOW IN OUR POWER), as appropriate and in accordance with international law, CARS WILL BE RETURNED TO CLARKSON (THE SAME LAWS AS YOU PERMANENTLY SAY THAT WE DO NOT MEET).

Clarkson, after a month to enjoy and explore the Patagonia Argentina , was detected by photos and the plates of cars were published. Aware of the presence of Clarkson, the residents of the Town of TOLHUIN with Veteranos de Malvinas , intercepted the convoy.

The Clarkson final task was to make a symbolic takeover of Cerro Castor displaying English and UK flags. This did not occur
Neighbors and veteranos de Malvinas defended our homeland from aggression of Clarkson, expelling them from Argentina.

I have no idea whether Clarkson somehow contrived to have this particular number plate attached to his car.It wouldn't surprise me either way- after all he's got plenty of form when it comes to mocking the locals whither he goest. He IS sexist, racist and the kind of person of person I would find it difficult to spend more 30 mins with without wanting to deck him. And yet...he still makes me laugh, he writes about cars in an original, genuinely interesting way and has taken an unlikely concept and made it work. In any case nothing excuses the aggression of the locals.Treating a Lotus Esprit- one of the of the sexiest cars ever made-like that, is just plain wrong.

It's going back a few years, but they adorned their cars, variously, with slogans like...man-love rules OK, Hilary for President, NASCAR sucks & country music is crap. Just before crossing into Alabama border. The locals weren't amused and also pelted them with rocks.

You can see why this might inspire cynicism on the part of some as to Clarkson et al's motives.

@60 - and the bridge slightly wonky, it just so happens that that slope is a derogatory term and it is total coincidence that there was someone walking on the bridge who was a native of the country to which that term had been previously applied by racist people.

Yes, of course I can't prove this but trying to play devil's advocate which whether it was a conincidence or not is a little silly. Clarkson has a reputation for this sort of thing and has become more reactionary and more...well..racist in his old age. This is the demographic he is pandering to, people who find racist jokes funny.

My real issue is that he probably knew that if things flared up then there would be issues and that ther was a possibility that the upshot of those issues could be violence towards him, or more importantly, the team of people with him. However, taking this into account, he still did it and then starts wailing about how his team were in real danger for their lives, a danger that he helped to produce. Yet he still left them and still decided that he would do something that may incite violence in the first place. I don't agree with the Argentinean position here either but I think people should strip away to emotion and look at Clarkson for what he really is. Comfortably racist enough to make it OK. After all, the bridge was sloping...so I'm not sure what these darkies are complaining about.

Agree, no doubt Clarksons is racist, wittingly or unwittingly, matters not.

I can't see this being a deliberate attempt to provoke this kind of reaction.

I agree with your point, that if Clarkson or whoever was responsible for the production, foresaw the result and still went ahead with their actions, then they bear some of the responsibility for what subsequently took place.

I'll say this, nthough, if I was a member of that team and this turned out to be the case, then the BBC would now have a bloody great lawsuit on their hands for knowingly endangering my life or limb.

The Chilean border officer told his argentine counter part to get lost, and to stop telling the Chileans what to do, swear words were heard,

CLARKSON STATEMENTS TO A BRITISH JOURNAL:
“After they crossed a river into Chile, they spoke to the local official who said his opposite number in Argentina called him and told him to chuck our guys out, back into Argentina“.
”“Their plan was then to arrest the crew for entering the country illegally.”
”In true modest fashion, he continued: “Luckily for us, we’re really popular in Chile and they love the British so the official refused. In fact his direct quote was, ‘I told them, fuck you!’”

MR. CLARKSON LYING: the Argentina police protected him and escorted to the border with Chile. The officials of tierra del fuego asked him to abandon the country FOR YOUR SAFETY AND NOT CREATE MORE resentment WITH LOCAL CIVILIAN POPULATION.

    @74
”THE MALVINAS WAR AND THE BRITISH OCCUPATION OF 1833 DAILY IS LIVED IN ARGENTINA AS A DEEP WOUND THAT IS NOT HEALING YET''

Once again, the Malvinas lie is told. The recovery of the islands in 1833 was the end of an occupation, not the beginning of one.

The “deep wound” will only heal when you acknowledge that fact and stop lying to make fake claims towards the Falklands.

On the subject of Clarkson: Previously, we've had Argentina film an athlete for the Olympics walking over a war memorial in the Falklands, while the advert makes the false claim that he's training on Argentinian soil. There are no claims he was assaulted or abused in any way by the legitimate inhabitants of the Falklands.

Also, we had the Argentinian football team in the World Cup unfurl a banner repeating the Malvinas Lie. They were not attacked, but rightly punished by FIFA for their political grandstanding.

Now Clarkson drives a car through Argentina with a license plate that allegedly references the British recovery of the Falklands from an illegally occupying power. Argentinians respond with violence and (allegedly) attempting to arrest them under false pretences.

There's no justification for this at all. Like the Falklands, their actions forfeit them the moral high ground, unless an apology is made and the perpetrators fo this violence brought to justice.

“..A true white australian anglo and his racist tongue.....dear me!!!”

Dear me indeed. A poster who tries to impersonate an Aussie by giving him/herself the nick “aussiesunshinee” yet then claims to come from Spain. But being geographically confused pales into insignificance when one considers the odious nature of your utterances. An inarticulate poster who is incapable of putting forward a cogent argument, so you resort, in every one of your posts, to puerile, racist attacks against the British, the Falkland Islanders, Aussies and anybody else you are frightened of.

Playing the racist card is the last refuge of inarticulate and is about all you are capable of. Judging by the content of your posts – you know all about racism.

The fact is that the behaviour of the Argentine government and the stone throwing mob that attacked the BBC crew is a disgrace, unsurprising given their track record but still a disgrace. Once again they have mad fools of themselves in front of the entire world.

Since you claim to be an Aussie you will, no doubt, be familiar with the expression “walk like a duck and quack like a duck, then you are a duck!” Well that description fits Argentina to a tee; their aggressive destructive behaviour betrays a chronic loser mentality and warrants contempt and derision.

Argiedarkness, a person who doesn’t know what hemisphere he is in, who uses racist hateful commentary as a as substitute for rational argument and who is an apologist for fascists everywhere. Your posts are typical of the puerile racist diatribes that we have come to expect from the argentine supporting trolls that inhabit this blog.

The organizers for the protest against banning hunting with dogs had a recognised worldwide company counting heads the number of protesters using TV camera technology.

The total was in excess of 2 M and I was one of 40 people from my target shooting club which went down and protested. It was a sight to behold and no trouble whatsoever because the police did the job right and cornered the loonies in a kettle: there were only a thousand or two who turned up.

When the police announced the numbers (taken from their own TV setups) they claimed under 900.000.

Fix or what? The Police Superintendent who came with us (a club member) was disgusted.

I just want to provide a list of local (Neuquén Province) number plates that should be banned by the national government:

ARS 682 (This obviously means Argentine surrender June 1982) This number plate is on a Renault 9.
ENG 255 (This obviously pertains to the English (British) dead in the Falklands War) This number is on a FIAT 127
BGN 332 (This is surely connected to ARA Belgrano and the number is close to those who died aboard her) This number is on a Renault 4
LGN 923 (This obviously means Mount Longdon and the number is close enough to the total of fatalities in the Falklands War) This number is on a Toyota HiLux.

These are just the ones I've seen over the last few days, I'm sure that if one really tried one could find offense on every other car that passes you on the road.
